smoking a bit of hash helped me "get" brothomstates which in turn led to gantz graf by autechre. it sort of sequenced my mind by helping focus a little more on what was going on, so it all makes perfect sense to me now. the same thing also happened to me listening to trout mask replica by captain beefheart. (im not a big smoker and hardly ever do, BTW)

When Draft 7.30 came out, it sounded like noise and random computer glitches to me. Now I listen to it on a regular basis and I am amazed at it's intricacies. They are just one of those bands that are so far off what you are used to, your brain doesn't know how to decode it at it's inception.
Drane 2 is one of my top 10 songs of all time. My mind goes on a journey every time I hear it.

And without wanting to sound like a wank, Gantz Graf was the first Autechre I ever owned and I never felt like i needed to go through a period of 'getting it'... the patterns in the rhythms are so intense and catchy. I dunno... maybe crazy fucked-up music just appeals to me... thing is I dont find it so crazy and fucked up :S

Autechre are pioneers, though they balance on the verge of ingenuity imo. Their latest releases tend a bit too much to the incongruous side. I just can't follow them anymore... Maybe in a year of 5, who knows?

I'm a huge fan of their earlier stuff. The turning point in their career for me is Confield because I only like 70% of that release. And this level of what I like is dropping with each release. Draft = 40% and Untilted = 20%.

I heard Untitled for the first time on new years while totally stoned... and I like it a lot more than Confield and Draft. The beat in LCC blew my fucking mind.

Not necessarily, I agree with your statement but for me it did'nt take being high to appreciate Untilted better than the previous 2 albums.

It's just a better album, more "clean" sounding if you will.
