Amo Bishop Roden Video

Post by six-five-two »

After seeing the other video time lapse with Amo Bishop Roden I thought I should try making a time lapse video my self. Very similar to the other one... then I read on YouTube and found out that the video got a lot of negative reviews because they found the music boring and not in sync with the video. Well since I have no skills nor do I know how to sync the audio with the video to sound good... mine is basically the same as the first one. I am probably not going to post this on YouTube because I don't want all negative comments.

Enjoy.

Note: The video seems like the colour is very.. dark. When I first filmed it though it was pretty clear... it's probably because of all of the editing, converting, adding, decompiling the video has gone through.
This is the first time lapse video I have ever filmed.

Please reply! Constructive critism is welcome. I would like to know how I could film better.

You know, Ninja Tune sells some software called VJamm that is expressly made for syncing beats and video. I believe it was developed by Coldcut themselves. You might look into that if you want to get into this stuff seriously.

Hello,

Nice first attempt at shooting timelapse video.
About your question regarding syncing audio with the video. One can use various tips and tricks for this. A very robust and clinical approach would be looking at the waveform of your audio and try to find certain keypoints to cut your video on. In this case has basically a continuous shot so this makes it alot harder in the edit stage to get a flow of images going on besides adjusting the tempo of the timelapse to fit with the flow of the music.
What you do in the movie, changing from frontview to backview in the car is something that can be used for instance, but requires cutting in your footage or carefully planning it before filming. A basic approach would be to use only frontview in the beginning of amobishoproden and when the beat starts change to backview and change again with another introduction of a layer of sound (like those bass thumps). As I said this is a very basic approach so experiment with it. Try different camera positions out. You can also use effects, change colour for instance in combination with the flow of the music to let the viewer sence there is somekind of relationship between the visual and audio part. Personally I find this should be used as last resort but it could help you alot as a learning experience. In time start to think about what you show and how it relates to the music. I know this is your first approach, but start to think more about a theme/feeling the music gives you/create a little story around it/, timelapse videos do not always have to be carmovies.
As you have noticed you are really dependent on what you shoot and how you shoot it. You will get better in time, just keep on going and have fun.

About your comment on that the colour is very dark, sure compression does make it muddy and the quality of the filmmaterial also depends on what kind of cameradevice you use, but you already know that. The problem is shooting inside a car/overcast/ resulting in a contrast problem I guess. Also never depend on what you see by looking through your dv camera device, it gives false information.

Greets.

Okay thanks for the help. I will try VJing software and other techniques for my next video... I am getting a bendable tripod so the film will be a bit more stable aswell.

1 tip. Keep your camera still. Especially with timelapses.

I got a tripod last week (hooray!)
Throw away your smartphone.

Time lapse videos are pretty cool. Your video made me feel car sick but I'm sure your new tripod will make a huge difference. I am looking forward to seeing what you will make next.

I'm immediately reminded of:

and good work. By no means perfect, but if this is the type of video you're interested in making I seriously commend you.. they're rare to find, but among my favorite to watch. Probably cause I've got ADD.
