Not necessarily, I agree with your statement but for me it did'nt take being high to appreciate Untilted better than the previous 2 albums. It's just a better album, more "clean" sounding if you will.

I agree. I think that really is what it boils down to. I think they perfected what they were trying to achieve with Draft and Confield, and were also able to bring back a little bit of their earlier melodic sound.

I also really dig Draft and Confield. They're fucking insane albums. Nothing else out there quite like them.

I don't think they're ever going to top Vietrmx21 though

Picking a favorite of the three most recent is pretty hard. This week I'd probably go for Draft, but that could change at any time. There's quite a lot of concentrated evil on that album, but that's not to say there isn't any on the other two. I dunno, can't decide.

Whew, I'm glad I'm not the only one on the board that's diggin AE right now more than Boc. I thought I might get decapitated by posting something like this, so it's nice to know I'm in good company. Boc's next record is gonna have to be REALLY REALLY good for my views to be tilted (or untilted

) back the other way.

Somehow I ended up getting into new autechre (Draft and Untitled) before i ever heard any of their older stuff, and I liked it right away. Its strange because I had never listened to much electronic music save BoC, and nothing near as complex. But i could immediately relate to the new autechre cds, and not so much the older ones. something with their stuff just clicks in my brain.

My fav new album has gotta be confield, with untitled at a close second because of the awesomeness of pro radii and augmatic disport.

Sorry to bring this thread back up (I missed it).
I saw there was so little love for Autechre's new albums, so I decided to do my share...
Draft 7.30 and Untitled are my favourite albums EVER,since february.

I think its a matter of "finding out" whats so cool about them.

Honestly, I'm grateful to Autechre for their later output because it hammers home a very important point that music people (like myself) sometimes forget: that there are no correct answers in music.

It's too easy to get into elitist mode and start building an establishment of records that everyone SHOULD like if they just had the skills/discretion/intelligence/taste/etc. to understand them.

Records like Confield (I still have yet to really explore Untilted or Draft) really force you to come to terms with the reality that you either like them or you don't. I think the average person would be hard pressed to put on 'Confield' just to feel cool. They make you honest, in a way.

That's in part why I think Lastfm is so interesting. Whatever you may say (or think), your Lastfm charts speak the truth about you. And the truth about me is that even though Boards of Canada is supposedly my favorite aritst, I listen to Aphex Twin FAR MORE. So maybe he's really my favorite at the end of the day.....

Good point. Wait until you listen tp Draft and Untilted they are mind boggling

Sadly Last.fm doesn't really account for my music tastes exactly, because when I am driving my musical taste varies greatly from what it does when I am at home relaxing.

Still it is in fact a proper representation of your musical taste because that very change in music styles during different parts of the day is what's affecting all of us and hence it is part of our musical profiles. You do listen varied music so your profile is varied as well. It is correct and it's good as well.

Why? Everything you listen to has to be scrobbled because it IS part of your musical preference! You have to take into account all different kind of moods of listening which occur at different periods of the day/week/month/year. You can't take just one subset and make it into your one and only musical preference...

I know, but he means that he listens to tracks in his car that DONT get scrobbled. This way, you only get one subset, and that is the problem.

Who says it's that what he means? That's not clear from his posting, imho.. but it could be.. and if he uses an iPod in the car, he could scrobble those tracks as well..
