I discovered Royksopp through that fucking Geico caveman commercial.
That's sad, I did too.

Just saw this ad for the 1st time last night. And I like it - I think it works well. Unusual for me; maybe I'm just mellowing with age, but I usually hate it when bands let their songs be used in adverts. It's still sticks in my throat a little - I always liked Nick Cave's quote on why he never lets his music be used in ads - he said he often gets letters saying X song of his reminds them of their wedding day/child being born/friend's funeral - BIG events - so how would that person feel if the song cropped up in an advert for "fucking Cornettos". That said, I can't imagine Mr Cave has had too many reuests from Walls asking to use "Red Right Hand" or "No Pussy Blues", but I could be wrong.

Also, I think the Merc ad was quite refreshing in that most ads are just TERRIBLE - expensive, idiotic and treats the viewer like a moron. The only other ad I can think that I like at the moment is the VW night-driving ad. Oh, and the Volvic one with "Tyrannosaurus Alan" - give me a talking dinosaur and I'm happy.

Despite the fact that it is selling planet destroying wankermobiles, I think the ad is ok. Apart from the fuking voice over. :?

Shame you can barely hear BOC for them rabbiting over the top. Still, made me grin when I caught it earlier tonight. Good music always sounds better when you're not expecting to hear it.

I saw this on the telly a while ago before I saw this topic, and for some strange reason I didn't even pick up that it was BoC playing in the background, even though that's one of my favourite songs!! How weird is that? I must've listened to it so much I've become desensitized.

On the topic of BoC songs in adverts, I'm not bothered as long as it's good ones like this and not something shitty. Although, to be honest, that advert's jagged & thunderous visual style doesn't really go with the light wispy feel of the song in my view.

As they will never again sell so many albums like they did 6 or 8 years ago, this is their new way to earn a good living for themselves and their families. Now they have their backs free and money and time to record a good new album...:-).
