Ingmar Bergman

Post by Mexicola »

Was sat eating my lunch in the glorious afternoon sunshine today, birds singing, blue sky, clouds passing gently overhead. Opened up my copy of The Independent and saw that Ingmar Bergman had passed away. I've always thought of BOC whenever I watched his films for some reason. Not directly related I guess, but something about his work has a beauty to it that I drew a parallel to. Just wondered if anyone else was a fan?

PS - watched a fantastic documentary about him recently in which he discussed his demons and his life. Was interviewed in his home island of Faro, Sweden. Stunning setting for a wonderful interview.

Anyway...

One of the greatest directors of all time IMO, after Godard maybe even THE best.

Godard was/is incredible too. Bande a Part is just fantastic.
Personal favourite is still Stanley Kubrick, but for different reasons.

Wow.

Sucks.

Was away on vacation and always trying to catch up on news while I was out, but never saw this mentioned anywhere.

"Wild Strawberries" has been a favorite of mine for a loooong time. What a loss.

Can anybody recommend any good euro new wave films?

I have seen Bande a part, which was good but I fancy something heavier.
