Boc's "GOTHIC" tunes

I recall somewhere BoC claiming their early stuff was more along the line of gothic. The only things that sound gothic to me are some particular tunes like "Track 14-Old Tunes Vol. 1 side A" and "Statue of Liberty" What do y'all think, and can anyone unearth that quote?

edit: actually there is a little section of vol. 1 side A that sounds remotely gothic. 12-14

Yeah, I recall that interview. I think possibly it may have been in reply to a question about their allegance to electronic music and the fact that it's not the only kind of music they enjoy and create.
I think they mentioned that one of he earlier incarnations of the bandhad that 80's guitar Goth sound. It's been mentioned before that they are big fans of the Banshees so possibly it was a similar sound.
I think they really dig taht 80's industrial sound also.
Even though some of their music is dark I can't really hear mush of an influence from that Goth era. It must be a subtle influence if any.
I also remember a Biography somewhere mentioning Fall covers that they used to do back in the day. Does anybody remember seeing this somewhere? That kind of amused me as I love the Fall but the 2 bands couldn't be any more different.

the beach at redpoint comes across as the most gothic to me...yikes. x

yeah, i think they said they were into a lot of gotic stuff while at school in the '80s. it seems as though they started experimenting with electronics because of the cocteau twins and MBV, more so MBV. i only startyed listening to the cocteau twins a while ago. don't know why. i was missing out for a long, long time.

Yeah, I only started to listen to them since a month or 3...
I was really put off by the name...

Yeah. First started listening to them this year. Great band.

I believe the story goes that they had a slight guitar/ Gothic influence in the mid 90's and I swear I read that they were using vocals here and there during this period.

yeah, would be interesting to hear some songs with lyrics in. apparantly, the cocteau twins have heard, and like the brothers boc and even asked them to collaborate, but boc had to turn it down because of their contract to warp. i'd say they were fairly bummed over that.

Who are these Cocteau Twin guys? I saw up earlier in this post somebody was pairing them with MBV and before I started divulging into BOC non-stop MBV was my favorite band. Loveless and Isn't Anything are sitll in my top ten. But I want to get into this band, what's the best album to start with??? for Cocteau Twins?

Hmm... well, the thread is WAY off track at this point, but I'd recommend "Heaven or Las Vegas" as a good starting point. Allmusic thinks "Treasure" is their best, but I just can't get past some of the vocal goofiness on that record.
