Over the past few months my love of QOTSA has grown exponentially. I had the pleasure of seeing them, as well as Nine Inch Nails a couple of times in concert last year. In fact, I would put QOTSA, BoC, and NIN in my bizarre holy-triumverate of favorite groups. Also, Massive Attack and Pavement rotate in and out of that line up as well...it seems to change every week.

It's practically what I was raised on, having a brother whom is seven years older put me up for lots of exposure to both of them.

While I love my BoC, every now and then I just need to hear something a bit more raw and ... "Tooley"

I think Hooker with a Penis is likely one of the best Tool tracks out there.

I recall watching NIN Closer video for the first time at seven or so, and from then on out I developed a bit of an early obsession which has peaked and dwindled, then peaked again over the course of my life.

Btw Derail, If you like NIN and Tool, I suggest you check out Queens of the Stoneage. I feel that they are the only other band capable of comparison to BoC is terms of how perfect some of their tracks sound, how natural and smooth most their melodies roll off in their songs.

If you go as far as to purchase an album I'd start at Songs for the Deaf, if you like that then I'd suggest Rated R, then lullabies to paralyze.
I never liked Queen Of The Stone Age, but i'm still a big fan from NIN and Foetus, they are going around for a while know and still interesting.

I have an older sister who got me into Tool and Nin, so I can relate. I remember hearing the Downward Spiral for the first time in like 4th grade and I fucking loved it even back then and I still do!
My first NIN experience was with my older brother and the downward spiral. :)

I think to truly appreciate QOTSA one has to make a complete listen through to one of the holy three albums being (In order of what you should listen)...

(1.) Songs for the Deaf

*Much more of a metal, faster, genuine rock sound then the more acid/stoner rockish sound of Rated R, David Grohl's drumming added a layer of brilliance to an already incredible sound*

(2.) Rated R

*Leans towards stoner/acid rock more so then any of the other albums, feels the most un-collective of the three to me, but a phenominal album none the less.

(3.) Lullabies to Paralyze

*I don't think this album can truly be appreciated without a full listen through, I hold it much like the Geogaddi of QOTSA. The album really tells a story if one listens and it's certainly a grower. Examination of the lyrics adds much depth as the "musical" story to the album becomes clearer.*

I suppose QOTSA is an acquired taste to most. I was introduced through the song "No One Knows." which at the time I thought only to be a bit above average. My Brother in law bought Songs for the Deaf and he listened to the whole thing once while driving somewhere with me, my sister, and niece, I remember being in-different towards it but somehow intrigued. I took the album home and listened through a few more times and suddenly I had two more favorite tracks, then two more, and before long I was listening to the whole album. I remember about two years of my life from that album.

some bands that have touched me the most are pink floyd, coil, massive attack, burzum, nine inch nails, fennesz, gustavo santaolalla, led zeppelin, boards of canada, ulver, tool, the cinematic orchestra, bb king, ryoji ikeda, meshuggah, sigur ros, lustmord, archive, 12 rounds, metallica...

in general, i like classic rock, heavy metal, industrial, idm, experimental, blues, trip-hop, nu-jazz, etc.

as a musician and producer, i have played from death metal to idm and pop rock so maybe its fair to affirm that i consider myself musically open-minded. :)

throughout my life, i've tended to really focus on a specific music genre till i grow tired of it and move on; however, right now i think this nomadic behavior has stopped and i have matured enough to achieve a level of eclecticism that i'm quite comfortable with 8)

i actually hardly listen to any idm at all (note: i'm not saying that boc = idm).
Sorry but"A Tribe Called Quest" and"DJ Premier" isn't underground rap ,try"Dälek", the future of rap music.
Yeah Dalek is the shit. I'm good friends with Alap and Will. Super cool guys. Alap recorded 2 bands I was in, Superstructure and Transmegetti.
