An Eagle In Your Mind

Post by Derail »

I think this track contains all the elements of Boc that I absolutely love.

-The eerie background synth
-The numerous vocals samples used throughout the track
-The change of the beat towards the end of the track, and the ominous atmosphere that creeps in
-The scratching in the last minute or so fucking blows me away! :D

(at 3:20 into the track that faint female vocal is also incredible)

As I said in a previous topic, this track is what BoC are all about. It is absolutely exemplary of their style.

For the first 2 minutes of the track I feel as though I'm travelling through a cold, twilight landscape...
Definately one of my top five BoC songs!

Wow, what an old school idea for a topic! I also love this track. I think it fits very well where it is placed: not exactly the opening track, but the first significant track on the album. It does a good job of setting the tone for the album as well, kinda like "Music is Math." Is that a vocal sample @ 3:10 or a flute? That's my favorite moment of this track by far.

yeah i LOVE this one too, as much as telephasic workshop, the beat all over is fuckin incredible, and the synths that come in at the end, ah, it's VERY dark and eerie through the whole thing but at the end the bassline gets darker and the beat just sounds evil

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT

edit: sounds like a flute, but with BoC who really knows

Jeez, are we gonna have a topic for every song on MHTRTC?

But I must say, as the second song I ever heard by BoC (Take a stab at what the first one was), An Eagle In My Mind does hold a special place in my heart. It doens't have much of a melody, but the beats are amazing.

an eagle in your mind is unbelievable. it leaves me with such a creepy and polluted sensitivity…that i have just been fucked over by drugs, i'm left cornered by a psycho in my mind, yet...at the same time, it's the most immense feeling i've ever experienced. i often feel like im floating above this track, reaching out and selecting the melodies...building a visual castles and all sorts.

the same goes with sixtyten and telephasic workshop...definitely my favourite boards of canada tracks. X

This is my second favorite off of the album. It doesn't give me a creepy feeling. I get a positive and peaceful vibe from it.

When I went to listen to An Eagle In Your Mind, I went to Music Is Math and played that instead, before checking the thread again and remembering it was An Eagle we were talking about.

I think it's really interesting how MHtRtC and Geogaddi are almost structurally analogous in that regard - brief, instrumental/ambient intro track, then An Eagle... and Music is Math, respectively. They're like siblings, with a similar genesis, that grow different from one another over time.

Also an Eagle In Your Mind reminds me of Happy Cycling. A lot of it has to do with the basslines (and how they transform into more of an ambling sort of melody towards the end) and the overall mood or atmosphere created by both songs.

Arguably their finest moment, imo. For all people go on about Geogaddi being dark - An Eagle In Your Mind is way darker. Love it completely.

i enjoy an eagle in your mind, although i have no great affection for the scratching.

the song, like many other boc songs, puts me into a meditative trance.

Great song. I am in love with the sliced-up beatboxing after "I love you!". To me it doesn't really feel dark or scary until the part towards the end with the scratching.
