used to have this beast:
Image

40GB
plays video (without any hassle)
opens as an external hd in my computer (no crappy program to transfer through)
big screen, and it's a pretty good size
durable

I had it for about 6 months after buying one on ebay for £150 which is about $300 I think
then my friend put a bottle in my bag without putting the lid on and it filled my bag with lambrini and now it is broken

I almost cried, it meant that much to me lol

if you're interested check ebay because you can get it for about 100 pounds less which is really good

here's the amazon page: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Archos-Gmini-50 ... B000BM8FKE

it's a good'un ;)

and heads up fellow iPod-hater!

lemme just check, this mounts as a disk, right? In other words, it doesn't need drivers or software- so I can just plug it into any computer and load stuff up?

yup, mine didn't even come with a cd, dunno if that's because it's second hand or something but I don't remember installing anything, it also uses one of those really common usb to thingy wire which come with basically everything nowadays, so your friends probably already have the connection wire

glad to be of service !

screen is really good, there's like 3 settings of brightness I think, I used to have it on full all the time, I think the battery life was like 3 or 4 hours while watching movies, and then music some ridiculous amount of time like 15 hours. the battery is also really easy to take off and on and you can buy them on ebay, so if you're adament you want to watch this 7 hour movie in one flight or something you can buy another battery and replace it half way when the other runs out.

the weight is kinda what you'd expect, it's not light, but it's not like holding a lead bar, heavier than an ipod as well, I guess it's kinda heavy, but it was never heavy enough to be a nuisance to me

i'm getting the new ipod classic soon, it holds 80 gb and the interface is really nice in my opinion. really good screen too. anyways i would say go for the ipod classic but do whatever floats your boat

also - i'm pretty sure the ipod is cheaper. so if you think about it that's 50 gb more for a cheaper price

Yeah i know what your saying, BUT, i have a sony 20gb, i have all my music including stuff i NEvER listen too on it and thats about 11gb's used. The creative also has an expansion slot so can always buy 16 more gigs on ebay.
Also the whole no radio with ipod really pisses me off. i know you can just buy another extension thing for the radio for like 20 quid, but then the ipod gets alittle bit bigger. the screen is the same size and as far as i know the same or better then the new ipod on creative zen.
Glad i am not getting my first ipod now.

Had a go on one today in the Apple shop in Southampton. VERY impressive. However, those screens get very smeared very quickly don't they?

My old 20Gb ipod is starting to creak. Think I'll wait for it to die on it's arse and then either go with a new (cheap) iPod "classic" or - if they come down in price, and if nobody finds a major problem with them in the next 6 months - I might take the plunge for the Touch.

Slow down...

Yeah, they do get greasy, but not as bad as I thought. A bunch of the guys here at the office have an iPhone and haven't really reported any "grease issues" so far.

I think I'd be getting a Touch for the other applications on there, besides iTunes.

That.. and I'm a freakin' Apple fanboy at the moment.
