One on Twoism - Volume 2 [Audio Submission]

Dear Twoismers,

We are glad to announce that the second edition is finally about to lift off!!

Although most of this may seem obvious, we advise you to please read the following rules very carefully to avoid any unnecessary confusion or discussion. We advise 'new' users who want to contribute to please read the original One on Twoism topics already in this subforum. They will give you a good idea of what One on Twoism was and what we hope this series will continue to be.

Although we intend for One on Twoism 2 to maintain much of the same spirit as Volume 1, we do encourage creativity. If it's good, there's a good chance it will find its on way on the compilation! Of course, we obviously do prefer that your submissions fall somewhere in an electronic / IDM / experimental / ambient vein. We think we want this compilation to be more upbeat, but please don't limit yourself to any preconceived notions. Again, if it works, it works!

Ground Rules:

Maximum track time is limited to five minutes per member, regardless of the number of tracks submitted.
We would prefer that the track you submit is exclusive to the One on Twoism series. If, however, this is not possible, please wait to release it elsewhere until One on Twoism 2 has seen a proper release.
Please tag your submissions with your artist and Twoism user name. (including ID3 tags)
When possible submit in lossless format (ie FLAC). If the song isn't lossy in the first place then don't worry about. If you have any questions pertaining to file formats, please feel free to ask.
Aesthetics and The Other reserve the right to select which songs make the compilation.
DO NOT set up dummy accounts to contribute more than 1 song!

Some special needs, however, are for an intro and perhaps some 'gap fillers' about 30 seconds or so in length. Please limit these to two contributions per member. Please review One on Twoism 1 for ideas of what we're looking for. Feel free to come up with whatever you think will work well. Think intro, mitro, outro, voice, jingle.. go crazy!

What if:

There are too many contributions? The Other and Aesthetics will decide which tracks make the comp. Generally, established members will receive preference.
There aren't enough contributions? 2nd contributions maybe be considered.

Instructions for Submitting:
Send an email to oneontwoism[--at--]twoism.org [--at--] = @
Include a text file that includes the following information:

User name:
Artist name:
Song name:
Myspace name or internet page:

You'll get a reply email asap with instructions how to submit the song(s).

Deadline:
18 November 2007

Release Date:
Approximately late 2007 or early 2008.
This time is needed to master, compile and mix, as well as finish the artwork and create a web page.

Did you want us to submit an e-mail showing our interest in submitting a track prior to actually sending you our submissions? If that makes any sense...

Also, would sending you a yousendit link to a zip file be okay if we want to submit more than one track?

Please follow the guidelines as described above. If you want to submit more than 1 song you should stick to 5 minutes in total. You can zip it and email the yousendit link. Do not forget to include the text file with all the information as requested.

My apologies if this has been mentioned before, but perhaps Volume 2 should also be made available as a physical CD release. You could go with a company that does "on demand" duplication so that no up-front money is required.

I have had excellent results with Kunaki - www.kunaki.com - their quality is excellent, you upload full-fidelity files for the audio... no MP3's. Also, the artwork is full color everywhere, even on the disc - and the print quality is excellent. The discs come shrink wrapped and a bar code is free, so that the disc will be legitimate in every way. The only slight disadvantage is that the "booklet" is a single panel, so no fold outs - just a front and back (and of course tray card and disc printing).

Kunaki's prices are the best I've found: $1.60 USD for the disc and a flat rate shipping and handling fee of $3.00 USD. As I said, there is no up front money required and no discs are actually created until an order is placed. You may price the CD at anything you like, and the low manufacturing price means that they can be sold for cheap (say $6 - $8 USD) and you will still make a profit. Twoism might then apply this profit to the next release.

Kunaki accepts most all of the major credit/debit cards and handles all of the ordering and fullfillment details.

It's a great idea, and it was proposed for the first One on Twoism. Unfortunately, that whole episode went sour and a lot of board members lost their money. I'm not saying that it's impossible to do, but the memory is so recent and I would bet a lot of members would be reluctant to try again.

This release will undoubtedly be digital.

No actual outlay of money is involved with Kunaki - the way it basically works is that you send them the audio and graphics to create your release - this costs nothing. Then, if someone wants to buy your CD Kunaki takes the order, creates the CD (or CDs if more than one is ordered), and ships it out. Next, they deduct their $1.60 USD for each CD plus a $3.00 USD shipping & handling fee for each order and put the remaining money in your Kunaki account. Each month they send you a check for any amount accumulated.

So, all you do is upload your release and then sit back and wait for money to be sent to you for any sales of your release. There is no money required, no discs or stock sitting around... just an excellent way for an independent release to be made into a physical, high quality CD for those who want it, and still it could be available as a digital download as always.

I just wanted to clarify that no one has to spend any money to have a legitimate CD release. I have used this company personally, and it was first recommended to me by a friend who is a fairly major artist in the ambient field.

Even if Volume 2 remains a strictly digital release I would still highly recommend that any of the artists on this board take advantage of Kunaki for their personal releases.

P.S. I don't work for Kunaki, or have any stock in the company or any other connection to them other than being a customer!

Where were you with the release of OoT1???
This would've saved a lot of money and sure would've been a mature contribution for its succes.

This is a great idea but I doubt the feasibility of it.. simply because of what happened with OoT1. I know this is safe and I personally would go for it but like thedisavowed says, the memory of it is so recent.

We have to see the reaction towards this and maybe 'release' it both digital as physical. There are always members who want to get it for free (let's not forget that this is how it was intended in the first place) and a fair amount who love to have a physical copy. The greatest thing of all imo is that the copy is pressed on demand and no other costs are being made. In other words.. imagine if I am the only person who like to have a physical copy, it'll cost about $8.59 to get it here to Holland and no one will be screwed. It will be cheaper for our US members. What you see is what you get without any risk.

I personally think OoT deserves a 'proper' release, judging by the quality of it. Which is about to be confirmed. I expect OoT2 to be even better than OoT1!

Maybe we would go for, digital: 160kbps and physical: lossless ?
This setup is exactly how OoT1 was going to be released but this is much cheaper, it will be a CD instead of a CDr and a company will take care of it instead of an erratic person.

OoT2 will remain digital, no matter what.
(How many of you did burn OoT1 to CD btw?)

I thought I was clear enough in my first post..? please send me in lossless!! or even in wav if you don't know how to encode to lossless.
