Any chance someone could do me a small favour though please? They played 2 short pieces as an encore last night. The 2nd piece was superb, but I'm not sure I've heard it before. Sounds almost Eastern European? Very sorrowful with lots of strings. If you recognise it, could you tell me what it is please? A long shot I know, but....... DivShare File - sotl.mp3]here it is

this sounds gorgeous... any chance of other recordings from the night? i'm on the opposite side of the globe and i'm a huge huge huge SOTL fan but i'll probably never get to see them. i don't know how i'm gonna get that tour CD either, but i will somehow!

Sure - no problem. You'll have to wait a little longer though I'm afraid. I'm off to work in a moment and won't get a chance to upload them until tomorrow or maybe the weekend. If I've not uploaded in a few days then feel free to prompt me and I'll get my backside into gear.

I have maybe 8 to 10 3-minute segments, including the intro and rather funny introduction speech given by Adam before they started etc. Was quite interesting because it give a glimpse into why they perhaps don't play live very often (Adam seemed VERY anxious about the gig, whilst in contrast Brian was incredibly laid back). They are actually videos but the picture quality is terrible because it was so dark. Visually they were very impressive though, with some fantastic projection work. However, because they are from video files I have to rip the audio first, tidy it up, etc ,etc etc. Takes time, but I'll happily do it if people are interested?

Anyway, watch this space and I'll upload when I can.

and yes, i'm a huge sotl fan/nerd so i'd pretty much love to see anything you have. if the videos are absolutely indecipherable because of the darkness then obviously just do the audio... that's what matters most anyway!

i'm still psyched that they played one of my favourite arvo part pieces to be honest!

They not only pulled it off, they did the impossible. They sound even BETTER live (imo). From the moment they started up Mullholland the whole room just shook and reverberated like an oil tanker had ploughed into the front of the building. Glad you liked it, but I was a bit disapointed. I was not alone in this view as the band were not happy with the performance neither as Wiltze himself apologized for the errors and the lack of an encore by saying "its is early in the tour and we are still learning stuff"

That aside, I thought that the two band members were relying too heavily on the young music students, who were the best part. All that was happening other than the classical strings was the heavy drones of the synths - while at times beautiful - was too schemematic, with the key change pattern becoming monotonous. Now of course, in its self this was to be expected from SotL, but the records have vignettes and samples that offer focal points of interest that weren't there during the live performance. When I listen back I might change my mind and feel that I hyped this up too much and it was always going to be an anti-climax. Still I wasnt so put off that it stopped me getting a signed poster and tour CD after the gig

That's an interesting viewpoint. I'm wondering if, as you suggest, they were a little rusty? Opening night problems etc? Certainly, Adam did seem very uptight and tense - albeit I think possibly in part due to the bad experience they evidently had over here some years ago. However, I have to say I was surprised at just how much of their studio sound they DID manage to replicate. Sure, not every sample or layer was present (and frankly, how could it be?). But in some ways that (for me) added to the experience. It was almost like a private re-mix which is almost impossible to be replicated.

Anyhow, glad to see I'm not the only SOTL fanboy out there! lol. Signed poster and cd? I'm genuinely jealous.

Also, I was going to rename all the tracks, but frankly it's late, I'm tired, and the missus is waiting upstairs (ahem). So if you'll all excuse me...(right, where is that Barry White record?)

It was niiiiice!

The opening act Ignatz was not my cup of team... lo-fi guitar psychedelic shizzle... too long and boring, imho. The second act Machinefabriek was great, but alas too short!

And then, Stars of the Lid, they had some technical problems in the beginning due to the levels and the monitors but the stuff they played and the visuals were very nice! I loved the addition of live cello and violin. Relaxing. Recommended.
