its really sort of disgusting isnt it? I heard chromakey dreamcoat at a cafe the other night, I didn't know how to take it. The tunes just become so personal to you..hearing boc being played to the public is kind of like selling your girlfriend for sexs7409651 wrote:aaaaaAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!isawdrones wrote:wtf man...., are there going to be kids walking around my highschool talking about boards of canada now?

I think its friggin great.
I mean seriously, will boc ever be on mainstream sources like mtv?
No.
So let a starbucks play Macquarie ridge or dawn chorus. Let a mall play some beach at redpoint.
99.7 percent of the people wont even notice.
I just do not get the notion you guys have on this deal. Thats a good thing for me

Exactly - a lot of people are getting way too upset over this. Who cares if boc get more attention, I would think that's one of their goals, being musicians and all. Everyone who gets all pissy about "people listening to music cos it's 'cool'/makes them seem more intelligent" or whatever..well, saying something like that is just as bad, acting like the unappreciated scholars so you feel you can shit on everyone who knows less than you. Or that it's going to change how you feel about the music. If that's the case you might as well stop listening to the bros now....

Goddamn, you are so right. I used to get incredibly pissed off when I heard artists that I cherish (and probably spent weeks/months researching, tracking down, and appreciating).. offered in such a detestable form as popular film, tv shows, or in public. I got so angry.isawdrones wrote: its really sort of disgusting isnt it? I heard chromakey dreamcoat at a cafe the other night, I didn't know how to take it. After this happened enough times, though, I came to grips with the fact that when it becomes my responsibilty to put music in a film, tv show, or whatever--I'll be the asshole brandishing my love of certain artists, haha.
My favorite mismatched artist-appearance is probably BT's entire score of the film "The Fast and the Furious"... I rewatch that movie a lot, simply because I love how the beautifully written score so starkly contrasts the stupid premise of the film.
I would imagine the same thing happened with his score of "Stealth", but I figured that might be too big of a dud to enjoy at all.

I'd just think "Ooh, BoC. Awesome."isawdrones wrote:Im sorry but if Beach At Redpoint was played in a mall id go into an anxiety attack.
And move on with my life instead of worrying about it.
I mean seriously, come on. Being sorta greedy, aren't you? You want BoC all for yourself, and if other people like the music, then they like the music, let the have it. It's not up to you to judge whether it's wrong or right for them to like it, even if they do just like it because "it has a good beat". At least it ain't shit, right?

I'm sorry, but that would never happen! and if it did no one would notice prob not even you.isawdrones wrote:Im sorry but if Beach At Redpoint was played in a mall id go into an anxiety attack.
tbo i dont want boc to be mainstream just because of the throw away pop world we live in but if it happens so be it.
but how many times have you put on boc with a gang around at a party or something an everyone goes spair to "turn that shit off" put on too many djs! (which i like too lol, soulwax rock!)
But at the end of the day, the chill movement has been and gone and people dont listen long enough to get what fan boi's do in this type of music if you get what i mean.

you make good points all of you, but it just has nothing to do with being a "fan boi". from my experiences, this kind of music is some of the most likeable shit around, I dont think I've ever experienced anyone who really judged it harshly right away; one time some greasers I know said "what is this enya?", but they were drunk and not even caring to listen what was on anyway. maybe it depends where you're at. a shopping mall in Austin, Texas? isnt that one of the fattest cities in the country?
