They (kind of) just added a new London show for May 20th. Full details/ticket in sale imminently, but it's at St Giles Church, which I think is south of the river somewhere. So, looks like another blurry day at work for me then as I'll get back to Bournemouth around 2AM.

yeah, i'm working on it. i'm not sure how i feel about seeing them live, seeing as the records are so beautiful. i guess it can go either way, good and bad.

This was posted up tonight. Virtually the whole of their Toronto show on video. Takes a while to get going (well, it IS Stars of the Lid after all), but for those of you not fortunate enough to be able to catch them I guess it's the next best thing. Oh, and nice to see them open with Frates this time. Just beautiful....

Bring on London on the 20th!

the show was unbelievable! me and my friend were in the front row of the auditorium, a little to the left of centerstage. the opening act was pretty good, the visuals were neat and some of his guitar driven tracks were interesting.

stars of the lid started after a short intermission and were unbelievable. the opening song (fratres?) was awesome, really started us all off. they then played both parts of 'requiem for dying mothers' which was a definite highlight. part 2 was really bass heavy, it started to give me the chills when i closed my eyes and really listened. after that they played 'even if you're never awake' introducing it as "another top forty hit." that was another highlight as it is one of my favorites from their new album. the magnum opus of the night however was 'december hunting for vegetarian fuckface.' it got really fast and noisy in the end, with the opening act joining them on stage to partake. they ended there, but encored with a take on the song 'tippy's demise' which was also awe inspiring.

after the show, brian and adam were hanging out talking with people. i went to the merch table and shook one of their hands and bought the tour cd (carte-de-visite) and also the north american tour poster which looks so splendid in my room. the merch table was really good though: copies of all their cd's, copies of most of their vinyl, including 'the tired sounds of...' which i thought was no longer in print, tour posters, and t shirts.

i dont have any pictures, except for one on my cellphone, before either group started...

anyway, that was my analysis

Phenomenal show. Not sure what the first song they played was but Jill and I were just sitting there weeping (probably built up stress from the past couple of weeks as well). Highly emotional.

Was good seeing Ryan (TD) as well. Hope we can hook up more in the near future.

I'll let him relate the story of the "marker of good fortune".

As far as the marker goes-

I bought a buttload of merchandise there, including the t-shirt, poster, tour disc, Brian McBride's solo album, and Tired Sounds and Avec Laudenum on vinyl... and the duo came out and chatted with folks after the show. And Brandon (WWBJD) was like "you gonna get him to sign your poster?" Usually I don't do things like that because it makes me feel too fanboyish... but I don't what to say... I am a fanboy.. so I said I would if only I had a marker.

At which point Brandon FINDS ONE ON THE FLOOR. It was a sign. I got both of them to sign the poster, which I know in 20 years will be worth 10,000,000,000 dollars.

As for the show itself: Wow. If there are any board members within the sound of my voice (or text) who have not seriously listened to Stars of the Lid, REPENT.

Obviously due to the nature of the music its difficult to pinpoint the exact point in time, but I just remember there was a point in the show where there was just this explosion of sound... and I felt completely overwhelmed in a way that I have never felt before at a show. Simply stunning.

And I've written too much again. Fantastic show. You UK kids need to hit this up as I think they'll be in your neck of the woods shortly.

im kicking myself for not buying brian mcbrides solo album and their earlier albums. also i didnt have a marker either and wanted them to sign my tour disc.

I'm not sure- to be honest, outside of "Requiem for Dying Mothers", I'm not sure what any of it was.
