South Park

Post by Cupz »

Now, I've been a big fan of the show for quite some time now. I think its a shame it was marketed becouse of the voilence and swearing, becouse the comedy is fucking A.
The best episodes (and luckely most of them) are all exadurations and abstractions on what's going on, and it really puts some things in a weird perspective that make you think "Shit...they're right!"
Sure beats the shit out of family guy anyway

Yes. Better than family guy for sure. It's a totally different show than when it first started though. Probably won't ever see another monster like Mecha Streisand or Skuzzlebutt again.

Hell yes. I'm starting to dislike Family Guy a lot tbh, it's gone way downhill and become too predictable. South Park, on the other hand, never gets old :P

South Park is awesome! It's always fresh. Family guy is good, but not as well thought out. And ya, south park usually has some kind of statement behind the episode. Which is admirable.

I like both Family Guy and South Park and the extent to which I like each of them has oscillated quite a bit independently over time. At this moment, however, I have to be honest that South Park really fails to make me laugh anymore. Maybe it's because I'm too close to the source of the thought that drives its humor and social commentary ("young, down to earth, middle american libertarian/moderate dudes"), but all the stuff they choose to parody seems pretty old hat and it seems like, at some point along the way, they stopped being zany and ridiculous and started seriously thinking they were the bomb. Their parodies seem half-assed and clumsy to me now, I guess. I will say, though, that the aspects of Family Guy that annoy me have been adequately summed up by SP's Family Guy episodes. Regardless, I saw a Family Guy ep last night (the one where they went to Martha's Vinyard and Brian tried to get some from Lois) and I was laughing my ass off.

I went through AllSP last year while bored at school and I think I've watched each South Park 2 or 3 times on that website alone. The older ones are still charming and concerned with their own universe, and when artifacts from the "real world" happen to filter in, they're quickly and crazily lampooned into oblivion by a bunch of adorable foul mouthed 4th graders. I just can't say the same for the later eps.

Family Guy's formulaic randomness can be more than annoying at times - I've even decided I hate the show at some points, but I've since returned to it at least in part. I've found the extent to which it cuts away to non sequiter anecdotes is far less intrusive to the show than I remembered when I was avoiding watching it because of those things.

The Simpsons still trumps the other two in my book, however.

Ya, the older seasons of the Simpsons are unbeatable. seasons 3-11 mostly.

I fucking hate family guy. My roommates are always watching it and I just don't find the humor in it.

But South Park is awesome (although, this new season blows-or is it just me losing my sense of humor??)

Funny you posted this today, since you can watch ALL the episodes online now, on the official site!

www.southparkstudios.com, only 2 commercials in it (i think).
Won't keep me from downloading, but cool anyway.

And ofcourse SP rocks.

Agreed. They totally went downhill, but still kick Family Guy's ass. SP is a totally different beast here (and it really can be a beast at times!)

I'm gonna have to say seasons 1-10 however. I hated 11.

looking back at season 11 again, i have to agree. I didnt hate it, but it was no where near as good. 1-10 it is. And so far i like the Season 12 of SP.

Season 12 has been well received by me so far. Especially the latest one, although I haven't seen the film that it purportedly parodies.

Yeah, it looks pretty interesting. Ivan Reitman apparently produced it, and I love Ghostbusters. I probably should have seen the film before the South Park episode though, haha.

I disagree so so so much.
I agree that Family Guy has gone downhill, but it still makes me laugh.
Seasons 11 > of The Simpsons on the other hand I do not laugh at... at all. I just don't find them funny, and at times I find the 'gags' cringe worthy they're just so embarrassingly horrible.
