Brutalist Architecture

I'm not really feeling up to a lengthy introduction, so here's pics:

anybody have some beautiful photos of these giant naked blocks of faceless concrete?

i wish every city had a whole district of these in it. when the sun hits them it's magical, it's like 1970 reappearing out of nowhere.

I'm at Brunel University here in the UK. The campus was used as a filming location in Clockwork Orange, pretty good example of it. Should get some pics of my own actually.

I think I remember someone on watmm making this. Great stuff, I'm a huge fan of brutalist architecture.

I used to live in a brutalist-styled condominium as a toddler in Alexandria, Virginia.

Damn, it was soooo early-nineties.

I need to visit Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton someday. If I ever get dual citizenship, I'm seriously thinking of settling in one of those cities.

my favorite building on campus! unfortunately this is an old photo and now there's no park surrounding it, it's all parking lot and new buildings and more parking lot.

I don't know why but looking at this kind of architecture hits an unusual nostalgic chord in me. I think it's memories of going downtown and looking up at the facinating buildings as a kid.

Brutalism has some rich associations for me, too.

For some reason it makes me think of government bureaucracies (kind of understandable, since brutalism was most popular at a time of intense government expansion) and also educational and psychological testing (?). I imagine all sorts of people sitting in brutalist office buildings being evaluated by official agencies.
