What a disaster man! I'm glad you are ok. Were you guys at home when it happened? was it a house you bought/rent and where do you live now?

Yes, we were home when it started. We had been home just about an hour after getting back from Austin for our first vacation in what seems like forever. Jill was taking a nap and I was up and about when I started to see smoke pouring past one of our windows. We made it out with two cordless phones (lot of good that does us) and eventually I got my camera after everything settled down. We ending up finding our three cats a couple of days later. Sooty, shaken and drenched.

It was our home. Now we're in an apartment that the insurance company has set us up with. I really can't convey just how amazing the neighborhood and friends have been in their support and offerings.

Here's one more pic of my "wall of acid".

When I was finally able to pick up the 202 and 303 what seemed like a million gallons of water came flooding out. The pictures don't make them appear to be in that bad of shape, but when removed from the environment into a clean space, they're basically toast.

Everything can of course be replaced, it just took a very, very long time to acquire everything and most items had been restored once purchased. A lot of fun was had in that room.

It is kind of pretty though isn't it? Even just wandering through the house in areas where there is no more roof or ceiling and the light is pouring in.. and all the lizards that now inhabit the place.. it's kind of a tranquil suburban mess.

I let my parents in this morning, just into the entrance of the house and I was hearing bird calls from within the halls of the old home. Quite eerie, hard to describe.

B, Really glad to hear you made it of there okay along with Jill and the cats. That had to be scary. Im really sorry about all the gear and who knows what else...Its good to hear you have high spirits. Hang in there buddy. The most important thing is that you are okay.

Wow, that's awesome. Where'd you get the wood? I've got the remains of a house that I'm thinking of building something out of.

It's made out of used scaffolding-wood. You can use wood from old houses even better because the won't warp much anymore. In my case I was hoping to get real old wood so it wouldn't warp much anymore. .well, I think I got wood that was only a few years old because as you can see there a cracks between the planks. They got bigger during the process as the wood dried.. I was hoping for the hardwax oil to bring in some moisture and keep the moisture level steady. This worked pretty well and now the cracks are stable.

I have to get myself some more wood because I want to make a bed and some bathroom furniture. The wood has such an old appearance, and it perfectly fits the house we're living in.

Here you can see the crack.. I have to shot a better pic though:

Thanks, I might swap the laminate floor in the future to a lighter colour so it would fit even better because it mismatch a bit imo. The floor was already in the house when we bought it and it's not really our style either.
