Boc and brainwashing, your thoughts?
When I used to read articles and reveiws about people saying boc brainwashing people it used to make me laugh. But now the more I think about it they have definately done something to me. I don't know if i'm brainwashed but their music hits me right in the heart and no other artist has ever done that. Ok, I probably sound really cheesy and stupid but whatever.
The track one very important thought never really crossed my mind until I heard Geogaddi a few times and it really sunk in. All the hidden shit, bacwards speech, and talk of satan. Maybe if someone proved boc actually brainwashed people they would be censored just like the woman says on one very important thought.

I guess their music is more addicting to me than brainwashing. Probably because of the David Koresh connection some people think it's evil, but to me it's just more fascinating. There is'nt many other artists that you can pick apart and decypher different meanings from with each listen.Chyld wrote:As a very positive personal experience, i wouldn't call it brainwashing...
Or does it apply to every piece of art that enters your soul?
well, they want us to like them and the best way is to be mysterious and all that shizz.
i'm tired from work, so i don't have the will to debate this now.

I don't think their aim or intention is to 'brainwash' people, more to resurrect dead memories and feelings of nostalgia, specific atmospheres hidden in your brain... That's why they use children, Sesame Street and old nature documentaries. But I still don't know why they 'play' with the 'Devil', religious groups, porn and horror movies... maybe it's the bipolarity of youth or something... >_>
But how can you explain "someone will stop you from listening to the Boards of Canada"?
Is that because of the brainwash?
Is that because of the brainwash?

I'm pretty sure the Boards are not into brainwashing. Perhaps playing around with subliminal messages--that much they have admitted to--but I think moreso they are into making you think.
Particularly in regards to the Waco massacre; they want to make you reexamine issues and perspectives you might not have considered otherwise.
What I love about BoC, is that while so much of their music is dark and sinister, there is an underlying sense of beauty and positivity. It is perhaps the only music I've ever found that can be good and evil at the same time, but that is what is so amazing about them.
However, I do seem to listen to them obsessively these days, so maybe...

Brainwashing to me is seeing a coka-cola sign on every corner, repeating phone numbers in commercials like 5-10 times, turning on the radio and hearing the same 20 songs over and over and over, hearing the govenrment make promise after promise and how good things will be over and over and over. I dont consider what BoC does in there music to be brainwashing. They are just making there music interesting and thought provoking.

Re: Boc and brainwashing, your thoughts?
Strangest thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. I had been on a boc-only listening groove (you know the story --- all other cds out the window, boc is the only sound you hear during all waking hours....)Derail wrote:When I used to read articles and reveiws about people saying boc brainwashing people it used to make me laugh. Out of the blue, I started thinking about Waco and had an inexplicable urge to learn more about it, borrow the documentaries from the library, read the articles, etc... During my "research" I came across an article about boc and all the hidden messages that could relate to Waco. It was the first time I had ever heard of this connection, but when I did, my inexplicable interest became a little less inexplicable.
Brainwashed? Almost. More like brain-rinsed.
Re: Boc and brainwashing, your thoughts?
Through meticulous, arcane processes which we can only guess at, BoC may have been brainwashing themselves first. Hours, days, months spent conceptualising, experimenting and then tweaking results is going to put the creators in certain hypnotic zones of thought. Some layers of sound seem like they haven’t been made directly after the previous ones but rather developed in response to living with the initial layers for a good while, where the connotations have been allowed to soak into the brain. The deep listening informing their process goes on to be contagious.
Re: Boc and brainwashing, your thoughts?
I think its the opposite, its music that unbrainwashes you invoking magical worlds within you and reconnects you with the nature of all things.
Re: Boc and brainwashing, your thoughts?
Just found this in a magazine article:
"I do actually believe that there are powers in music that are almost supernatural.
I think you actually manipulate people with music, and that is definitely what we are trying to do."

I'm inclined to think BoC might actually serve to unbrainwash people if it would have any effect at all

A legendary electronic music duo actually wrote a song called The Brainwasher, but it's not them.
