My thoughts exactly! It just sounds like a very bad mash-up to me.

I really wonder what BoC think of this...

I really hope I've not ruined my love for the original track now. Because now when I play slow this bird down I'll always be remembered to the Solangabomination of a track :-/

Awful! Major dissapointment (but wtf did I think anyway :P).

Its really horrible, she could have treated the track with a little respect atleast.

I'll give her props for trying it out but it just doesn't work on any level.

Dear BoC,

Next time, ask Erykah Badu or Jill Scott first.

I've had an open mind about this but after listening to it a few times and digesting and listening again the best I can say is that it's an interesting experiment, but ultimately all it really makes me want to do is put on STBD. Disappointing.

Can we really be surprised that the track is below average? I wonder who is responsible for actually producing the track. We should point our fingers in anger at him/her.

EDIT: It's bizarre hearing her singing on top of BoC, almost as if I'm listening to some horrid youtube upload of a teenage girl playing around with her webcam. Make it go away!

lol

But it has opened the concept of vocals over boc tracks, I think a female voice over would bring a great trip-hop remix. a voice like Beth Gibbons or Kelli Dayton (sneaker pimps), that type of voice could pull something good off.

But this is bull.

Second that. What the hell were they all thinking? All I can say is thank god it was only a 20 second sample. Still, it was enough to make my ears bleed.

Yeah, some chillaxing singer would be cool to mess around with on one of their tracks, like the song "Circle" off the dodgy copy of Hooper Bay EP we've probably all got.

indeed.. especially because they did say this in the dutch interview by koen poolman in OOR magazine.

I'll quote again, translated to English:
They've got plans for solo projects. They've been negotiating for a soundtrack of a big movie. They've started working on a new BoC record (they still have a contract for three more albums at Warp). Mike: "The new record will come as a shock to everyone. Nobody will expect this from us."
This could very well be it... a brand new direction.. but for the love of god don't use lame rnb singers.. use proper voices like the females from Portishead or Lamb for example... *sigh*

could it possibly be that the delay on a new album is because they are waiting to see the reaction to this track?

Well wether the reaction to this (kind of) track is positive or not, will not make a difference in bringing out the record or not, I'm afraid.

But, they might indeed be preparing us for the new stuff... preparing for the worst?! I sincerely hope not... I really don't mind vocals.. I really liked the cLOUDDEAD (dead dogs two), Why? (good friday) and Beck (broken drum) tracks. Those vocals were a nice addition to the boc tracks. More of those, please. Lessolange!
