What exactly do you mean by folky? What elements, specifically? All of a sudden I can't picture in my head just what 'folky' refers to in BoC's music.

Ok, well it's never been a massive aspect of their tunes, but I'd cite "Chromakey Dreamcoat," the "Broken Drum" remix, the Clouddead mix and I'm sure other tracks.. it's not that I'm expecting a Bonnie Prince Billy record from them, but when they said that a lot of people were going to be surprised by the next record I just imagined that the folky element (the Incredible String Band element) was about to come more to the fore, and probably with vocals.

Just speculation. Most artists (not matter how big their abstractions) work within the field of their influences... so it could be a shoegazer record for all I know. Or maybe just Music Has the Right part II, who knows...

does anyone else agree that vocals would ruin the mystique? what would you sing about in a boards of canada song? eh... i dont know. i dont like that idea. remixes are fine, that makes sense, but not in their own music. and who would sing? guest vocalists? i wouldnt like that.

I've always thought vocals are the one thing that they should experiment with. Though I'd be more inclined to go with something like random stream of consciousness type stuff, Damo Suzuki stylee, or gibberish rap like Kool Keith.

This track sounds a bit weird, the vocals don't quite fit...not sure if I'd still think this if I hadn't heard BoC's track to start with? I'm impressed with her song choice though, the record is obviously quite personal to her for her to do a version of it, and it's not the most obvious of BoC records.
