Like the fuzz on the bass... I don't know whether it's the video quality or the stage setup but the kick drum has room to be 1000x louder, it would just bring everything together.

That said, awesome performance, saw the thread when just the audio was posted, this is a good complement

I'm going to see these guys in November.

I'm actually kind of on the fence about whether or not I want to actually do it, because I don't think I could stand to put up with the kind of shit people talk about whenever you get anywhere near STS-9.

All about how the power structure is crashing down and the evolution of spiritual man is blossoming and all this bullshit. EEagghhhhhh. It just sounds like an excuse for a bunch of wannabe hippies to take DMT and space out.

I think STS9 is pretty good at what they do. They remind me of a very jammed out version of BoC from time to time, so I definitely appreciate their cover of roygbiv. I feel that the main difference in the "culture" between the two groups is that BoC are quite a bit more private about their views and outlooks compared to STS9. I think their live experience would be somewhat similar if BoC actually toured...just look at those long 7-10 minute songs that they only played live that no one knows the names of.

I always figured that most BoC fans were a flask of patchouli oil away from being fried out "wannabe hippies" themselves.

Oh I think STS9 is definitely a treat musically, and I have no beef with how they publicate their views. This all has nothing to do with the bands themselves, either BoC OR STS-9.

Where I'm coming from is that I live with a huge STS9 fan who sees them at practically every show they do - he pretty much tours with them, books hotel rooms, orders up buses to take other fans with. And he knows all the bigtime STS9 fans. And the more I hang around him, the more I get the feeling that the core of the STS9 fanbase is this huge group of ultra drugged out kids who are all pretty much on the same page politically and with their relation to STS9.

Like...I'm not sure how else to explain it, but for lack of a better way, I feel like I'm going to have a terrible time there if I don't smoke a big hit of DMT and scream THIS MUSIC CONCERT IS THE BEST AND MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME IN MY LIFE, I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE ALIENS TO GET HERE AND SHOW US THE SECRET OF LIFE.

Sound tribe has a fan base of dedicated listeners. I used to be much more into them than I am now and would say that it is common for them to follow the band around. I disagree that they all have the same political views and definitely disagree that you have to do drugs to enjoy yourself at a show. The drug presence is definitely strong but it's nothing to worry about. Their shows are absolutely amazing. I can't describe how moved I was when I went and I was not on drugs. Their shows are a one of a kind experience and I wouldn't miss one if the opportunity was there.

I definitely get what you're saying. I think just about any group that is associated with the jam band genre attracts variations of these types of people. If the fans were alive 30 years ago, they would have been following the Dead instead.

I think STS9 is certainly much easier to enjoy than the Dead are if you're "not into the scene". I saw STS9 live in Rochester, NY a couple of years ago and it was one of my favorite live experiences, and I was unimpaired for it. I think it made an ok substitution for the BoC live experience I'm sure I'll never get to have. That's not to say there weren't a bunch of people off their faces, but I don't think it's necessary for you to fully enjoy the experience.

Hardcore STS9 fans kind of fetishize the scifi/alien type of thing the same way that listening to BoC makes you want to timewarp back to 1980 and watch old filmstrips. I think people make fun of that stereotype as well, I guess it's all subjective.

Good point man. I guess by default I took their DMT alien Mother Earth obsession more seriously than the BoC pathos (I once got cornered in the dorm by my roommate in a loud, spirited discussion about the levels of reality that STS9 know about) but that doesn't mean the two don't equate. I guess in a sense I value the art itself more than its message, and that's kind of how I interact with all art. Some people like both but prefer the message.
