there is one 'lil wayne tune that i've heard that i think is pretty phat (its the only one i've ever heard, cant remember the name...), but in general i dont like new commercial hip-hop either, as someone else here said. pop music isnt 100% bad, there is that occational time that someone gets something right. the UK seems get a better mix of "pop" music than any other country i've lived in.

COOL: MC Devvo and Shady Piez
UNCOOL: pop idol/american idol/canadian idol

(fine, i'll play along  )

as for guero and the information, i though they were pretty good albums but not his most amazing stuff, the majority of songs on both have good replay value. i like pre- mellow gold stuff by beck too, but you cant help but think some of it is a piss-take...

UNCOOL: most definitely x factor and everything associated with it. i just cant seem to avoid it. its being rammed into me from every angle. what's worse is that my pharmacy radio thinks it would be a good idea to play the winners track every hour...hang on...SERIOUSLY UNCOOL: lloyds pharmacy live radio station...the advertisements have been played so many times that i actually wake up in the night with the adverts racing through my mind. insanity! COOL:...i cant think of anything at this moment, so this pelican book cover titled 'the leaves of spring' will do.

Cool:
cLOUDDEAD and its associated artists.

Even less cool than that microwaved sausage roll or cornish pasty from 'I'm Alan Partridge' ("It's hotter than the sun!"):
The fact that 'Hallelujah' has been taken by an X-Factard and skewered and sold to people who will play it in shitty sound quality on mobile phones. Grr...

Seriously. I used to love NIN back in The Fragile days. Everything he touches now is either SHIT or BULLSHIT. Fuck Year Zero, fuck Ghosts, fuck The Slip, it's all worthless soulless regurgitated formulaic glitch rock throwup.

Moby may be cheesy, but at least he's not as big a tool as Trent is, and at least his ambient stuff is listenable. Eat my severed gangrenous dick, Trent Reznor.
Hear hear this. Trent's latest stuff makes me wonder if he never really got through puberty, or took a music theory class..

COOL: Aphex, Snares, Ratatat, Ghostland Observatory, Boards
UNCOOL: Radiohead, Three Inch Thumbtacks

Full agreement. And I HAVE tried. Staralfur is pretty good but the rest is ick.
Try "Njosnavelin".
They used it in Vanilla Sky, and it's really quite good. Other than a few tracks, yeah, Sigur Ros has a lot of filler.

Also:

Incredibly cool: I just heard cLOUDDEAD's 'Rifle Eyes'. HOLY SHIT.
Cool: Hood - Cold House
Uncool: Massive Attack (They have like maybe 3 good songs)
Viper.

Agreed, this goes under the "Almost Moby" sub-group of uncool.

However...

Cool: the fact that Jeff Buckley's version got to No.2 here in the UK purely on downloads and with no record company release or support, because so many people were pissed off at the X-Craptor version. I've kind of grown out of Buckley these days, but it's nice to see him getting some recognition - albeit about 12 years too late.

Leonard Cohen's original version was in there somewhere too, which is nice.

No No NO!

SUB ZERO: Aphex Twin pre-Drukqs. Sorry I'm taking Aphex Twin pre-Drukqs and putting that very high up away from all the short people. Ye gods, Ambient Vol 1 is cooler than a polar bear's toenails.

Uncool: Radiohead, completely agree. Sigur Ros. I like them, but they aren't very cool.

Very Cool: Delia Derbyshire. Yep.

OK, some more:

Cool: To Rococo Rot
Severely Uncool: Ratatat. Saw them supporting CSS and I felt a strong urge to get on stage and take the guitar off the hippy to make the noise stop. And then vengefully use it to smash his brains out for making me listen to his endless inane masturbatory soloing.

Aphex is VASTLY overrated IMO. He's done some good stuff, don't get me wrong, but from ICBYD onwards he's just turned out a load of old bobbins that sells off the back off the caché his name has generated.

Seriously?? I've only ever heard good things about Ratatat live!

...and I love all their major releases, too.

Cool: Lone. In my humble opinion he is the most skilled artist of the board. And he thinks out of the box, that is very cool.
Uncool: Bibio. He gets on my nerves very very quickly, unlistenable for me.

Hm...

Cool: Kettel, Electricwest, Multiplex, Deer, Ten and Tracer, Mrs Jynx, Plaid, Flying Lotus, Aligning Minds

Uncool: Daft Punk, Warp (the past few years), Samiyam (that rap beats album sucked balls), Clark (really, Clark?), Boxcutter/Chevron etc (the absolute crappy side of Planet Mu)

COOL: Pretty much all the artists on this forum who create some down right awesome music. Also, Sebastien Tellier, Ochre, Deceptikon, Principles of Geomerty, the most recent Para One record, Cilocub, Ratatat, Black Moth are ultra-cool, Boards have never stopped being cool and never will, Christ., Electricwest, Four Tet, Brian Grainger and his many projects, Kelpe, Massive Attack, Minotaur Shock's new record, Momus: the un-coolest cool person ever, Mujuice (still going?), Off the Sky, Pivot, Porn Sword Tobacco...and Tobacco!, Prefuse 73, Quiet Village, Redpoint, Saltillo, Scone, Sixtoo.

UN-COOL: Rob Dougan for producing tracks for the likes of the Sugababes, Modern-day Chemical Brothers, the new Prodigy single, Pendulum, Moby, 'scouse-house'.
