The Strangest Albums Ever

Post by Cupz »

Listening to it right now, I think Autechre´s Draft 7.30 is by far the strangest album ever. The entire feeling of the album and individual songs is so...unique and somehow a little bit disturbing...in a good way.

Post some of what you think are the strangest albums ever!

I can't ever think of albums like Geogaddi or stuff by Autechre being weird.
When I think weird I think of avant garde like music like early Sonic Youth, early Ween, The Residents, Captain Beefheart, and most outsider music in general. Also that album that Kyriakos posted comes to mind.

Geogaddi and Confield might be the avant garde of the electronic music world, but I don't think they compare to the weirdness and strangeness presented in some of the other acts I mentioned.
Just my thoughts.

"Sonic Youth, early Ween, The Residents, Captain Beefheart, and most outsider music in general." Not weird at all in my opinion, just very bad "supposed" to be funny music.

And fuck Stockhousen and the avant garde elite, "wow thats really weird, he just sampled a plane!!!" just because the music is atonal doesn't make it weird.

Geogaddi and Drukqs are very soooo emotinal and still very bizarre and strange. Thats spectacular! Just because you make noise like Merzbow or other noise artists doesn't make it weird for me. My favourite label at the moment is Touch and they are a very experimental avant garde label but not weird like Geo and drukqs in my world.

Very bad?

Why so mean? :(

I never insulted your music taste (which I share) yet you bite back like I've made a joke at your expense.

I thought this place was a little mature than that.

And this is coming from someone that's probably younger than you.

Any appreciation of Stockhousen shouldn't be divorced from his historical context, imo. If I heard his stuff on some kid's myspace page I would say "wow that's really basic and also really basically unlistenable, fuck, learn about melody man". But he was working in one of the first electronic music studios ever in history. The guy was on the cusp of the creation of a genre of music that had never existed before, unlike the Frenchies who were just sampling stuff on a tape, Stockhousen was using all-new electronic equipment to generate sounds that had never been heard before, period. Anyway, it was new at the time. That's what makes the whole thing interesting.

I'd put Philip Glass's Einstein on the Beach up there. I don't know what to do with Glass sometimes. And sometimes he makes me want to scream.
