Offtopic but why is it that on nearly every public forum the rules are that you can post links to complete albums in high quality on youtube but you aren't allowed to post mp3's no matter how obscure the artist is?

there should be a rule about material copyright etc, but employing unequal action just because of some "your doing it wrong" internet pack meme attitude is debatabbal with potential lameness. IN MY OPINION.

i'm working on contacting the Beatles by email to get permission to post a youtube file of magical mystery tour song. wish me luck!

The rules are pretty clear.
GloamLight posted a link to a song by Ruby Suns which was the original song (unmixed).

I don't know. Perhaps because Youtube is responsible for its content and is willing to take the risk.

Don't get upset about these curt reactions. I'm amazed how quickly people will fling decorum out of the window online. Something about not being seen I think. Its alot worse now.. Used to be civil before everyone thought they were Ed Witten because they edit wikipedia entries all day long instead of spending time with their family.

imo people who make these mash-ups are even lower down than the soundalike clones, at least they try and make a new track (albeit sounding like the artist they are copying).

With all due respect this sounds like a sweeping generalisation to me - I'm sure alot of credible artists cut their teeth reworking existing material and I can't see anything deluded or disrespectful about that.

Obviously alot of mash-ups out ther are a bit shit - but everyone has to start out somewhere - it's how you get good, right? Though i wouldn't call them straight out 'mash-ups', BoC did a fair bit of messing about with other tracks (Trapped, midas touch, Prancealot, the way you show) in their early days.

I'd have gone with a comedy tache/glasses combo, but each to their own seriously, i don't regard any album so sacred it can't be touched, even one as seminal as MHTRTC...
