Ah, what a nice thread to stumble upon, I've been in one of my folk moods all weekend (and still).

I personally love Devendra Banhart, both his music and persona. A Sight To Behold will never bore me,
Dragonflys (from Cripple Crow) is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, check it out (could be very personal).

Liege & Lief by Fairport Convention is one of my favourite albums of all time, for me it's one of those rare "perfect" albums. I never really checked their other material.

Furthermore I like CocoRosie to some extend, will see them live in May. Played their most recent album countless times.

The band Steeleye Span has its moments..

Discovered Karen Dalton through a Devendra interview today, she a great voice, check her out (free, legal mp3 from last.fm)

Will start to check out all other recommendations here, slowly but surely..

You may also know Roy Harper as the dude who sang "Have a Cigar" for Pink Floyd..even Zeppelin gave him acknowledgment.

I have a really crazy album called First utterance by a band called Comus released sometime in the early 70's I think. Also rereleased recently I believe.
I think it is described as acid folk rock. Shrieking Led Zep style vocals, manic percussion, monster riffs and some startlingly beautiful flute, strings and classical arpeggios thrown in.
All with a heavy dose of English eccentricity a la ISB.
Much better than most other stuff of this kind that I have come across which often seems to have all the ingredients but too many cooks spoiling the broth or something...

The Folk Is Not A Four Letter Word comps (1&2) have some really vintage trippy stuff on them, mostly female vocalists.. Linda Parhecs etc.

I like this thread! A lot of Nick Drake appreciators. Cool cool. I dig his stuff too. Especially the more 'pure' recordings, when not too much is added. I even found some rare tape recordings of unfinished songs. Gosh, this man is fascinating

That stuff is about as good as it gets when it comes to music for me. I usually conclude lonely nights of serious boozing with this kind of music.

i cant quite work out how i know the song 'no light to be found' - but it's the first time i've heard it in a while. beautiful!
