Slow this Bird Down vs. Sweet Pain (aka I was bored)

Post by Totopatter »

yo y'all.. I was bored, so I decided to try singing one of my tracks on STBD, but I think it turned out ok. Hard to sometimes put into words what BOC music makes one feel, but I found these lyrics to be fitting. Let me know what you think.

The damage:

Nothing final by all means, more of a rough version. Low quality..

Fun elements to look out for:

-added effects to my voice here and there but I'm not professionally equipped
-look out for a slowed down Rue De Whirl sample in there ;)
-sweet pain vocal is reversed at times
-etc etc...

Warning: DO NOT listen if you HATE vocals.

Let me know what you guys think.

Makes me wonder why crap like Solange is popular when you can make a better version so easily. :)

thx guys, just having fun here..

I had no idea this was the track "Solange" had worked on .. My initial reaction when I heard it was "oh no..".. anyhow, not that i'm a genius or anything, and many variations are possible I guess... but I don't think the over-sung R&B/soulful approach blends in. Why "bury" a perfectly good track.. and her lyrics, hmm.. I would have opted for more subtle, enigmatic messages... Then again, those with commercial tastes and Solange fans love it.

Awesome! Very hypnotic. I wish the production was a little better.

Thx for the encouragement, I'll definitely look into better equipping myself.. No much you can do when the sound is bad from the get-go.

Like they say: you can polish a turd.. but it's still a turd :p

Ehhh.
I'm sorry, I just don't like it. The vocals sound nice, but the lyrics don't go with the music at all, in my opinion.

Also I think I have an aversion to writing like this. Hearing stuff about "sweet pain" and "poison running through my veins" just immediately makes me think of goth and emo kids. Kinda pretentious.

"better than solange" doesnt even do this justice.

i'm not sure what i was expecting, but it's perfect. if BoC ever had vocals in their songs, i'd want it to be JUST like this. sounds like youre a big fan of the cocteau twins and sigur ros! awesome job! not sure how i feel about that deep voice in the background though.

now this is gonna sound stupid, but i always thought you were a dude, totopatter.
i was surprised to hear this voice! very beautiful.

I love the breathy reverby vocals swirling about there.. just right for my saturday morning hangover :) as someone else mentioned it's very Cocteu Twins. This is the approach Solange should've taken rather than just warbling randomly over the top of it, great work.

I approve.

The voice and lyrics, imo, fit this song a gazillion times more than the abomination by Solange.

Great work!
