Today I read an article about a piece of software called HSS from a Spanish company called Polyphonic HMI that predicts if a song could be a huge hit or not.
They analysed almost 5 million songs from the 50's till now. Don't ask me how they did it but in this article there was an example that the song <i>One</i> from U2 had the same "dna" as Beethovens <i>Ninth Symphony</i>.
In contrast with what most people expect, the worldwide music taste would expand instead of getting more narrow.
Imagine that you will buy a CD from an online shop and the
site also recommends you other releases you will like, 100% guaranteed!. And this could be a totally different genre.
That is, if I have to believe this scientific code.
I don't know what to think of it but it's kind of scary because it'll change the music industry big time.

I think that maybe they can predict hits that will be popular worldwide or so, but i think they can't predict what i'll like and what i won't, especially from different genre. For example i can take contrast between downtempo or idm and rock. How can they predict from my buying (e.g. BoC new album 
) that i'll like some hardrock band ?

I do believe it might be true, simply because I've met a few people in life that have almost the same taste in music as me.
If I recommend them music I'm almost 100% sure they'll like it.
Besides the music part I also see similarities in personalities...
I can't explain it very well but it's about having the same "wavelength" if you get what I mean.
And don't forget that most people are used to something and won't/can't switch easely. Most people are influenced by trends or to what their circle of acquaintances like, they will not open their mind for different music. Unless something else is "hot".
If this code is becoming reality and it proves to be right people are going to react different I guess.
What if this code/program tells a person he definitely will like 80% of a certain release I bet this person listens to it in a different way. In other words, people will be more open minded because this piece of software tells them.

This concept really seems to touch many different subjects in the realm of music, choice, predestination, subjectivity, mind control, mathematics, etc... In other words, it's perfect for BoC fans to discuss. I find it interesting and understandable that certain kinds of music just seem to lock on to your brain. I'm just not so sure that is a result of a predetermined code, or rather a choice that the listener has made. For example, why am I open to so many Warp Records artists, but not really interested in other IDM groups? But on the other hand, when I think about the chaotic circumstances that brought me to BoC, beyond simply calling it fate, this theory may actually have some substance to it.
