life
makes
no
sense
:?

is life more than just a constant search for distraction? (in the literal sense of the word - being distracted from how shitty it all is, make time go faster..)
what do you guys think?

i have no idea but i will say this, everyone who swears up and down there's a purpose to it all really seems like they're hard at work distracting themselves to me

distracting themselves from what? meaninglessness perhaps..
I personally don't think there is a purpose to everything.
But to a few things maybe? (i sure hope so)

I mean, weekend wildfire by Bibio just HAS to suggest there must be some kind of purpose somewhere 8) this song is just so amazing.

I once heard somebody say that there is scientific prove, depressed people have a more realistic approach to the world in stead of optimistic people.

I guess optimistic people are good at kidding themselves. It's like beeing good at sticking your head in the sand.

I'm (affraid I'm) more of the realistic type.
But I think I'll never want to swap with the optimistic / superficial people.
I'm a 'heavy feeler' so to speak. Although it can make me feel more sad at some point, it enhances the great feelings too.
Anybody here familiar with the concept of 'high sensitive persons'? I guess that's what you call it. Anyhow I recognise myself as a HSP-er. more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highly_sensitive_person

I guess thats why I love BoC so much.
Their music is drenched with emotion, which I feel to the core of every bone in my body when I listen to it.

I heard someone say that as well, and I remember agreeing. I am familiar with 'HSP-ers', as I am pretty sure I am one myself. I don't think it a bad thing, really it all just comes down to everything seeming a lot more meaningful to me than most other people. A lot of times it ends up with me looking at people with this perplexed look on my face, wondering "how the hell could anyone do/say that?"

I listen to BOC for the same reasons. It is made with passion. That's another reason I love classical music so much. Rachmaninov's concertos, Bach's Aire on a G String, Borodin, Prokofiev--many Russian composers actually--it's all drenched with passion and emotion...

i know exactly what you two mean. Though music being by far the most moving (to me), i have it with all different artistic expressions of passion and emotion (and Creation in itself being the greatest of all).
you know, i couldnt even imagine what life would look like through the eyes of a non HSP-er.. It might scare me. Or turn me into a lunatic. Who knows :)
Being able to experience beauty to the full is unfortunately without exception accompanied with being 'forced' to experience pain to the full as well. But, weirdly enough, i don't think i would want to miss either of them.. :?
I think there might be a lot of HSP-ers here on this forum by the way.
Interesting topic.

I think if I were a "Less Sensitive Person", I probably simply wouldn't care as much. I wonder if HSP is related to spirituality at all.

Heya Jed, we can shake hands then!
Cool 8) .
You're so right about it beeing a good thing, so much seems to feel more meaningfull somehow.
The way you wright about that 'perplexed look' sounds so familiar. Without wanting to sound cocky, but lots of people seem so superficial to me. Do you have that experience too Jed?

I think most of us BoCcers are heavy feelers (HSP-ers). Music in that genre (don't forget Bibio) gets to a far more deeper level compared to non HSP-ers I guess. They simply don't understand what the fuss is all about.

By the way: I LOVE classical music too, but I'm starting to listen to it just the last few months, as my focus was particually aimed to the electronic genre. So, is there any Russian composer which you recommand to start with?

I read that there is a link to spirituality. They say in the dark ages HSP-ers were the priests and spiritual teachers of that time, because of there sharp eye, and sensitiveness.
Maybe it's because of the sensitiveness that it's easier to pick up spiritual layers in this dimension, I don't know.
All I know that I can enjoy beautifullness in a divine way, which is great!

And as my sis says, this also has a antithesis, feeling pain and sorrow to a deeper level..

uhhh is that anything like being a crybaby?

i was always the type of kid who couldn't bear to watch horror movies, or movies with anything sad or scary or mean in them. i cried a lot. a LOT. people hated me for it and i started hating them for not loving me. some days it seemed like everything everyone else said and did was so mean and heartless and thoughtless. school was a nightmare.

before i went to school in the morning i would give kisses to the t-shirts i had decided not to wear that day, to let them know i still loved them.

i hate life, lol. i wish i could have an emotionbotomy.

Yeah, they called me a crybaby, weeper, shy, and so on. And like Bibio once said: this is no place for a weeper. For a big part, school also felt for me, like not fitting in.
The t-shirt thing is so cool man! Sounds familiar too!

How did watching cartoons turned out for yah?
Which cartoons do you watch? I love cartoons! (from 'my fairly odd parents', 'dexters laboratory', 'johnny bravo' to 'dragonball Z', 'spiderman TAS', I love them all!)

I used to kiss my trash goodbye and tell it I loved it before I threw it away.

I also used to talk to my stuffed animals for long periods of time, convinced that if I just had "faith" in them, they'd talk back.

Hell, I used to do a lot of weird things when I was a kid. I used to eat wheat chex when my sisters were eating rice chex, because I felt sorry for it. I was pretty OCD too. Had this obsession with even numbers, so if I scratched my left leg, I'd have to scratch my right one too, or if I looked over to the right, I'd look over to the left just to make things straight.

I was also obsessed with the following pattern, and would often tap it out with alternating hands or hum it on alternating notes, starting when i was around eight:

ABBA BAAB BAAB ABBA BAAB ABBA ABBA BAAB
BAAB ABBA ABBA BAAB ABBA BAAB BAAB ABBA

I absolutely love cartoons! I was reared on animated films and TV shows and most of the videogames I played contained animated cartoony people or critters too.

Actually I watched this because it's my current obsession and I love it:

They don't make cartoons like they used to.

Saturday mornings I used to get up early and watch cartoons from like 7am to noon. Now it's tough to find anything.
