That's going to be the highlight as far as I'm concerned.

747? Well, we've all heard it so...wait... yep listening to it now... so, it's not unheard but it is rare. I guess there's alot more to this track that the website excerpt so I'll give them half marks on the unheard there.

Mira Calix refxing in the IABPOITC may not ding my bell but I'll reserve judgement.

Mmmmm. Not blown away by the BoC presence to be honest. The chosen tracks are in ways classic BoC, but as a showcase of their best music, may not draw in new fans or thrill existing ones. Kid for Today is IMHO a superior track to Amo Bish. 747 will be interesting to hear in its entireity - but is not by defintion, as already said, 'unheard'. Surely this was an opportunity to payback fans for their patience by giving them something entirely new. Of course a new release will do that when it comes!!!! Still, i'm glad I ordered it nonetheless!

i'm not gonna bother as i believe that chosen, recreated & unheard will be available in some standard format outside of the boxset.

Awesome, 747. I'm looking forward to hearing the full version. This is the song that started my 747 obsession.

i just posted this in another thread, but it applies here too.

this just in from WATMM:
mdg wrote: they're working too hard on their next album to have time for this.
upon more complaints from other members of BOC offering 'only' 747 for this compilation:
mdg wrote: BOC are in the thick of finishing a new full length album. They obviously weren't in a position to give away any brand new tracks, just as some of the other artists on the roster couldn't contribute anything at all, for similar reasons.

Oooh.
747.
I'm also pretty excited that Jamie Lidell is covering Grizzly Bear, that's gonna be pretty damn cool.

don't worry, you can always shift it at a vast markup on ebay :P

Warp and their 'strictly-limited' editions, it was the same thing with the Four Tet/Burial thing. i understand the economic motivations and on the whole it makes sense, but it appeals to the worst kind of music enthusiast in my opinion- the elitist nerd.

Hehe, I managed to justify it to myself with the belief that it would be worth more in a couple of years, though I would never sell it. I'm really looking forward to hearing all the new material and since I got into BoC and have slowly got into more and more warp artists so it will be nice to hopefully discover a few gems. Plus I'm a design student so I'm in to all things graphic :)

What do you mean by elitist nerd?

I bought it even though they are blatantly going to release everything individually in the long run (note the proviso's in the header before each tracklisting eg:

"(Unheard) will initially only be available in Warp20 (Box Set). Vinyl version will always remain exclusive to this edition.")

Bu I thought fuck it, I'll treat myself, plus the packaging is delicious. Personally I'm more interested in hearing the Seefeel stuff and the Mark Pritchard re-rub of "3/4 Heart", but that's just me. I totally agree about the pandering to elitism point, but I think everyone is guilty of subscribing to that in one way or another about something. If Music70 said "Oh BTW, we have like, 50 copies of the original Old Tunes cassette up for grabs, we found them in the attic, £70 and it's yours" I think most people on here would have to change their knickers and then bust out the credit card. Also, just as an after thought, who's to say the 747 on this is the same as the track everyone's heard? Well, I've not heard it but as far as I'm aware it's a rob off the internet, right? Who actually said it was 747 in the first place? Unlikely I guess cos it would be too much of a coincidence, but i imagine BoC would find it amusing to give Warp any old track that nobody's heard and say "Ha! Lets call it 747 like that 20 second loop everyone's heard, give 'em a bit of a surprise."

The 747 we've all heard was from an old Geogaddi-era version of the official Boards of Canada site. They had a bunch of interactive things where you'd fly around an island and different parts of a song would play from different parts of the island, so as you flew around they'd fade in and out. At least one person (probably more) exported the individual tracks and created their own 747 arrangement out of them. So, we've heard at least part of 747 unless they decided to pull an Old Tunes Happy Cycling/Hi Scores and reuse the name for something else, which seems a bit unlikely considering that the interactive version of the song was on their own official website.

Oh right, yeah I remember that site. Well, I guess we'll find out in a couple of months. It's gotta be better than some cobbled together bunch of samples regardless.
