As long as the guy isn't making any profit it can't do much harm.. right?

EDIT: Just noticed that it indeed isn't your intention. :)

Nice design!

And I reeeeaally can't see the problem here. Guy makes a couple of shirts, people who like it buy it. probably won't make more than 1$ a shirt... and if he would, i'd be glad to since he's put some effort in something people clearly enjoy.

It isn't like he's selling their music and making tons of money over boc's backs...? Calling this piracy sounds ridiculous to me.

Awesome shirt design! But I think it would look even cooler if it said Broadcast under it. Looks more 60's looking. Still awesome none the less!

It's not the Broadcast forum over here! :) They're a nice band too by the way.

if it's wrong to make a shirt of your own design is it
also wrong to make a remix of a song you like?

If you take into account copyright etc. then it's a definite yes. You can't just recreate other people's intellectual property without written consent.

Just give it time.

OT, but did you guys hear about the record industry in the USA trying to make ringtone's classified as a "public concert" so that they may collect royalties and fees for said ringtones? Is that not insane?

You said USA and insane in the same sentence; it all makes sense to me.

After thinking about this thread, I feel Fredd-E is right. Even if a shirt is of original design, we did not earn the right to make money off the equity of the band's name. BoC put in the time and talent to make their name, no one but themselves has the right to make money off of it (and those they give permission to).

Inspired, I have just removed two BoC T's I had designed and put on Skreened (digitally printed T's). (I was making $3 a shirt, and sold a lousy 3 shirts) I didn't feel too bad originally since the money was to go towards my family's adoption costs, but now I feel I have no right to profit from their name.

Make a remix, give it away. Make a T-shirt, give one to your friends. I'll always have my original shirt I made from a hand-cut stencil and spray paint...

No offense intended Fredd, but I hope you're not turning this website into the quasi-official BOC forum in return for the crumbs of non-information that this 'insider' dribbles out to you. When a website/forum loses its independence it loses its integrity, and the direction of late doesn't seem very hopeful in that regard.

As for the actual shirt, this wouldn't even be a popular thread but for the fact that the bootleg t-shirt in question looks like what an official release should and the official shirts look like bootlegs. What crap they're peddling. I can almost picture the condescension in the room as the decision was made whether to invest some effort into new t-shirts and someone likely said that BOC fans will buy anything so why bother.

one time i felt as if my shirt had left me, and i felt the cheese, but i was missing those salty bread sidings. so i slipped on another shirt, and it read BoC, with some amateur (yet, starkly printed intelligence) images on the frontside. And I smiled with glee.

please say it's truuuu

I think this is pretty much innocent and makes no harm at all to the band's interests. We shouldn't worry too much about the official shirt sales and the overall BoC/Warp financial wealth, as the current designs are terribly boring and awful and we are still buying them anyway so...

And I agree with Bryan here. Honestly certain things here and there are freaking me out a bit lately, like what you said about mdg and his approval, Fredd. I don't know.... but the whole mdg status in the boards is a bit strange...

Independence is not the right word to describe this forum as its name, twoism.org, directly relates to Boards of Canada. Wether you like it or not, this forum has become the most well known forum for boc fans. Right next to the info wiki at bocpages.org

And I'm just a moderator here, not the administrator (which is Aesthetics), so I'm not pushing this site into anything. Just sharing my thoughts on the vending of t-shirts and profiting on the back of BoC whilst other official t-shirts are available nowadays. I understand the need of t-shirts back in the days when the official ones weren't avaialble, but times have changed.

And why do you have to call MDG an ínsider' between quotes? How many times do we (the moderators and I) have to let all of you know that he is a legit source; a real insider. A spokesman of the band so to say.

Your lack of faith is disturbing. And that's a direction I'd rather not explore.

He's been on forums more than you might think. We should be glad he's here to help identify pestering trolls who are trying to spread false information on either watmm or twoism.

He's just more active nowadays, something to be appreciated I think.

And again, I just wanted to make a correlation between the stance on mp3 sharing and the t-shirts. It's all about coypright. I justed wanted to point out the lack of consistency regarding the matter.

Ugh.. never mind all of it.

You give the answer to yourself: the lack of faith comes from the fact that we have seen too much trolls in the last years. Until he can give a proof which really everybody can follow for himself (you know the age of enlightenment?), there is still a chance he's just another troll.

Well, you persuaded me in another thread that he is legit. So he gains the same amount of credibility like you the forum moderators. I believe in him the same way I believe in you.

But we're still on the internet, right? Never forget that!

Do you trust hexagonsun.com being a domain owned by BoC? If yes then you should trust MDG being legit, he ffs registered his forum account with an email alias on that domain! What more proof do you need?

Do you think we the moderators made MDG a moderator for no reasons? We're not stupid you know...

I'm sorry if I sound a bit hostile, but all these doubts make me #$@#%

PS: He also confirmed the black shirt before it was even known.
