The melody that comes in at 3:10. Yes.

And the synth flourishes that you can faintly hear that really sound like they're far off in the distance (not just the synth being quiet or it being panned).

nothing like coming up on shrooms to this track while camping during a rainstorm by the shore of lake superior on a 100 ft cliff overlooking the waves, knowing your friends are wandering the woods shrooming out of their heads already, and they're the nearest humans in miles......

An Eagle In Your Mind is also my favourite Boards of Canada track. it's the drum programming, the hip-hop references, and the vague Jean Michel Jarre feel to it.

i totally agree that this track alone is darker than most tracks on Geogaddi.

a few more of my favourites include Chinook, Telephasic Workshop, Pete Standing Alone, Mansel, Staircase Whip (i like that one mainly because they use a hit from the Amen Break in there)

boc maxima is slowly becoming my favorite album of theirs. its got some really amazing songs on it. i really wish this was available. id pay a lot for it.

maybe you could have it be quiet with an amount of dry reverb, and as the volume comes up the reverb is reduced.

Good ear... I can totally hear that 'hit'. I am glad that BoC tend to shy away from overused drum sample kits though. As much as I love Venetian Snares, I just don't see how he could (or why he would want to) push the amen any further than he already has and still have it be audibly recognizable... Detrimentalist was almost all amen as I recall.

heh, i have a knack for paying close attention

depending on how it's used, i quite like it when artists push the "overused" samples to their limits (and indeed past them). it's using the sample as if it was an instrument in it's own right...in a similar sense that a guitar, no matter how many effects pedals you put it though, still sounds like a guitar.

as you said, BoC are generally known for not using the Trinity samples (amen, funky drummer, think) and it was just a nice little surprise to hear it being used in one of their tracks. even though it's been kinda covered up, you can still hear it if you pay close attention.

I still love that the percussion is chopped vocal sounds... Seems to me there must be a few kit sounds in there as well, but I wouldn't put it past them to do it all with subtle tweaking of the samples.

Yes, this is a great track - I love the vocal sample which sounds like Philip Madoc saying "Jesus wept".

Easily one of the highlights in their canon.
