No, just a hypocritical meat eater. I don't like to recognize my food, don't want to know where it came from. A former roommate is a vegetarian and when we ate together it was always without meat, didn't miss it actually. Probably won't be a vegetarian, but I neither need meat.
Sometimes I eat meat, just to support farmers. Because my father was a vet, I saw a lot of farmers and I know quite a lot of them care for the environment and possess a great deal of knowledge in the nature field. City-environmentalist often seem to love to cuddle animals, while in my experience farmers are the practical guys in preserving nature (a bit exaggerated, I know).

i never give people shit for eating meat, but i do have some stuff to say:
1) you're not a carnivore. practically nobody is a carnivore. the word is OMNIvore.
2) here's a good piece of advice in general, and one that i have to tell myself often - stop getting into the mindset that the world around you is filled with a constant, invisible battle for which there are opposing sides that need to be defended with words and actions. it's not true. you don't have to assert your meat-ness or your veggie-ness over anyone. there is no need to presume you are taking part in yet another segment of some long, extended fight between meat eaters and vegetarians - or religious and non-religious people, or blacks and whites. honestly. there is no battle. i know people who hear some piece of news and go "THE LIBERALS ARE AT IT AGAIN". they're not at anything. i think this is a problem people have with separating off distinct events or incidents of their lives and accepting that small incidents are not necessarily part of some hidden, greater story/scheme/conspiracy that is constantly going on in the background. if you and i are sitting down to eat and i say "i'm a vegetarian", i am not speaking on behalf of all the pushy, touchy, arrogant vegetarians you may have met in the past few days. i'm speaking on behalf of just myself, right now, irrespective of everything and everyone else. seriously.
3) no, you wouldn't "just about die" if you could never eat meat again. there are actually a lot of things you could live without and after a year, at most, you would be just about totally settled into. worry more about the people around you and how you can live without them, because they're going to die. meat isn't going anywhere.

I eat meat. I love it, will not give it up.
I hate people who say meat is bad for your health, mass production and stuff. Well, same goes for vegetables and fruits. All of our foods are enhanced with grow hormones, gen manipulation, polluted with pesticides, and so on.
Not to eat meat, I think, mainly is just because you feel sorry for them.
Compared to the mass food production of these days, the past wasn't that bad. People grew there own vegetables, fruits and had their own animals to eat, or to drink their milk. This way you know what you eat, whitout people fooling around with it.
This is probably why I grow my own grapes, apples, cherry's, strawberry's & tomatoes. To bad it isn't enough to fill my stomach through the year
i'm in agreement in some respects to you Earthbound.Earthbound wrote:Ahhh, you lost me.turquoise70 wrote:i never give people shit for eating meat, but i do have some stuff to say:

meat in America is certainly pumped full of crap and unnecessary stuff. but that's not the same case everywhere in the world.
my fiancée is American, and she's vegan. it can sometimes be frustrating to get her to understand that while it may be a health risk to eat meat in America, it is not over here in England.
it does frustrate me when some people take veganism / vegetarianism to the point of religous zealousness.

oh i wasn't referring to you, i was referring to those people, you know.turquoise70 wrote:that is pretty much exactly what i was talking about. i'm not going to argue with you over it though or i'd be defeating my own point.
i sometimes have to slap my fiancée to get her to come back to reality.
then i yell at her to get back in the kitchen where she belongs
I just eat turkey these days, when i do eat meat..... wooooo jimmy jon's!
I think that a lot of folks eat meat because of its convenience.. If meat wasn't shipped in regularly from everywhere, people would have to go out and kill their own dinner instead - I think that would turn many people away from eating it at all.
