Everyone should watch it. It's about a metal band, but it's not really about music. Although the final scenes had me in tears, it's one of those films you'll genuinely feel good after watching.

YES, seen it and recommend it, highly! As someone who struggled in bands all my life it really spoke to me.

Mike Sandison listed it as one of his favorites so it gets mentioned a lot here. I remember he listed a few of my favorite movies which leads me to believe we should be besties and have movie slumber party nights and paint eachothers nails.

Ok, maybe not slumber parties. But he listed Heavenly Creatures too, which is another one of my favorites.

Oh and another documentary I love is Style Wars, about graffiti in NYC in the 80s.

I probably already mentioned it, but the Piano is a great movie, I love the atmosphere.

Just watched the first four episodes of The Ascent of Man. Absolutely incredible, tour de force of knowledge.

just watched a great film called Russian Ark (2002). one hour and a half one take trip through 200+ years of the Hermitage on a Steadycam. innovative to say the least.

Black and white psychedelic 70's arthouse-inspired horror/thriller set during the mid-17th century English Civil War anyone?

A Field In England is my film of the year by miles. Trailer:

During a battle of the English Civil War, an alchemist's assistant named Whitehead flees from the strict Commander Trower. Whitehead meets Cutler and two army deserters, Jacob and Friend. Together they leave the battleground in search of an ale house. They encounter the Irishman O'Neill, a man whom Whitehead has been sent to apprehend for theft. O'Neill quickly asserts authority over the group and tells them of a treasure hidden somewhere in a nearby field

A cast of six people, shot in 12 days, cost £300,000 to make (probably less than the catering budget for most Hollywood films), stunning score and sound design and some truly mind-melting editing.

If this sounds up your street, I advise not to watch any other trailers or reviews other than the one I've posted above before watching, as the other official trailer (kinda) has spoilers in it.

Open up and let the devil in.

I have wanted to see this since I heard about it (when I was away travelling). Missed the TV debut. Thanks for the reminder - downloading now (having not even watched the trailer you linked to, or read anything else about it other than having absorbed similar 'buzz' about the thing). Gonna watch 2nite, methinks.

I've seen The Shock of the New and it was awesome.

Civilization is amazing also!

For those into Stalker / Roadside Picnic, check out this so-bad-it's-good spin off B-movie from Finland.
2 hours of good knockabout fun and all the soldiers in the movie were played by the same 5 actors!!

This should be right up everyone's alley. I kept expecting a BOC tune to pop up in the soundtrack. It would have been very fitting.

Grey Gardens. I love this movie, it's a cult classic documentary from 1976 that follows an eccentric mother and daughter (relatives of Jacqueline Kennedy) who live together in a crumbling mansion together on long island with a bunch of cats and raccoons and memories. I find them so interesting and endearing.

'Howl' on Allan Ginsberg is fantastic for a small indie movie, if you ask me. Fantastic animation, strikes the nerve with the poem. Nice lighting.

Classic doc. Loved it. Salesman is another Maysles doc. that needs to be seen too.



Just seen All Is Lost:

I highly recommend it. There's about 5 lines of dialog in the whole film and Redford is the only actor.

Great soundtrack too (see the: 'Now Playing' thread in the: This Random Sound forum).

I keep hearing about a movie called "The Penis". It's about a musician in world war 2 who is Jewish. Has anyone seen this? I can't seem to find it anywhere...
