I was sad that he died too. I found it hard to believe. (I heard the news on my clock-radio as I was half asleep and had a very strange dream as a result, bordering on a nightmare in fact).

I loved his energy and his enthusiasm for what he did. So many people are overly concerned about what others think about what they do, the way they behave etc. He appeared to not be too concerned with that other-directed personality stuff. He knew what he was about and had confidence in himself.

He did a great deal to help animals in a world where most people couldn't give a shit about animals, or each other for that matter. We need more people like him.

He did alot for wildlife animals, but i hated the way he gambled with his life, the things he did with the crocodilians where sodding sensation if you ask me. It's a shame he's dead, but you can say that for lot's of people in this freaking world!!!

I have to agree with you, he was a sensationalist, perhaps he was too wrapped up in his image for the camera and could have been more reserved (which may have been nearer to his true nature, who knows?).

Regardless, he's as dead as a fucking dodo and that's that! Personally, I must say that sometimes I felt he was a little over-the-top, but that's showbusiness. He was as much a part of showbusiness as he was conservation. He paid the ultimate price for that.

If I'd have been within a mile of a stingray I'd have had better protection. He should have known better. Alas he didn't (or he knew but took a chance). He was a lovely guy by all accounts. A dying breed for sure.
