I would have night/day terrors.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_terrors
It would happen at night when I was sleeping, I would burst out in terror and no one could wake me up, but I was aware of what was going on, but I couldn't control it.
I would fall on the floor and start screaming, like I couldn't get out of a nightmare. Felt like someone was holding me down and wouldn't let me up, I couldn't move and it was the most awful, helpless feeling ever.
It only happened at my parents first house we lived in, an old women died in the room I slept in. I never knew if it was some paranormal shit or what. My Mom took me to a Doctor for it. They did all kinds of tests, but they couldn't figure it out. I remember being in front of a huge mirror playing with toys as they watched me.
I grew out of it though... Every once in a while I will sense it coming, like a little memory of it, but it never comes.

Had a slight case of sleep paralysis earlier on, but it wasn't scary at all. I was just relaxing in bed, and suddenly i could feel it coming on, so i quickly started moving my hands about to get some movement in them. I woke up less than 10 seconds later.
Years ago, when i would wake up from sleep paralysis, i always had to turn my pillow over. I was scared that if i didn't, and i fell asleep again, it would come back.

Question to all of you who have had this: Do you sleep on your back?
The text I've read makes strong reference to this being a common factor and the only time I get it is when I accidentally fall asleep on my back. Never get it at all if I sleep on my stomach.

I just had this happen to me last night! I was sleeping for a couple of hours when I woke up only I was unable to move my arms or legs, I could not speak. I was hearing and seeing things in our room and I was trying to scream but nothing would come out! It was awful! I kept seeing visions of my Uncle that passed away a bit ago. Then I would be able to move and snap out of it. It happened twice last night. Has anyone gotten any help with this? For the people who have it? I haven't had this happen to me since I was a kid and not it started up again last night.

I'm not sure if there's help available (?) maybe you could talk to your doctor about it? It really is nothing to be feared. I usually get it because of my seriously fucked up sleeping pattern. I get this about twice a month, if not more.

Did you change some of your sleeping habits? If so that's probably what caused it. I think it's normal. When it happens to me I always try to yell like you said, eventually I manage to make some sort of retard sounding "DERP!" seconds before becoming fully awake. It's hilarious I think.

It is a partial form of lucid dreaming. You're brain is becoming receptive to stimuli (aka, the outside world) but you are not yet awake, this making it feel as if you cannot move your body. The important factor at this point would be to train yourself to recognize this lucid state. As soon as you understand what's happening, you're body will stop.
It's almost like looking at a twitch. When you look at a twitch most of the time it stops twitching.

Thanks! I hope it does not happen again, but if it does I will try to stay calm I guess. If I can. But I was seeing and hearing evil things, I was scared shitless! haha.

great
after reading this thread I never want to sleep again
I once sleptwalk when I went camping with my friend in the forest. Waking up confused in a dark forest with no idea where you are was still one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. Luckily my friend noticed that the tent was open so he found me pretty quickly.

Yeah, in this situation, your brain is dumping chemicals, and you're getting that "feeling of impending doom" which is usually accompanied by hypnagogic hallucinations, as you "wake up."
Unfortunately, all of these things are "side effects" from a medication I take, ironically, for sleeping.

I was reading up on this too. Check it out. Because as I was in bed I was listening to In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country.

Get ready for a long post about my dreams....
So lately I've become realllllly interested in topics of dreaming. I guess I'll start from the beginning of my dream experiences and where it's leading to...
When I was younger I had fairly basic dreaming cycles. I'd wake up, sometimes remember a dream/nightmare, sometimes I wouldn't, it was never really something I thought too much about, just sorta existed.
Then I guess the first big change was when I started getting involved in drugs (just smoking weed essentially). At first it never really affected my dreams much, and even a few months after it still hadn't, but I did begin to get interested in other topics such as OOBE's, meditation, metaphysical studies, different levels of consciousness, etc. I began reading up on a book about OOBE's and I tried for awhile every night to have one. There were all sorts of methods on how to do it, but I would just try to hypnotize myself before falling asleep, and remaining right on the edge of conscious and restfulness. It never worked sadly...
Then I quit smoking weed, blah blah blah, started getting interested in psychedelics, still nothing really affecting dreaming much. Finally, I started smoking again, and I noticed a little bit more activity when dreaming. I can't remember the exact timeframe, all I remember is eventually I would start remembering more of my dreams.
Not only that though, I also started getting something I call "dream flashbacks" which are just little flashbacks to dreams I've had YEARS ago. Even ones I wouldn't remember back then when I woke up. A lot of them would come up when I'd be really stoned or really tired, but I would just sorta get a mini dream sequence/daydream. Some of them would be really vivid, and others not so much. Most of the time I would just get like a visual of a place I've dreamt of a long time ago, and from there I'd remember little situations or events that happened around it. It really excited me, and I still get these all the time and it's really interesting to me.
But anyway, the last year about, I've been on and off quitting weed. My friends say when they smoke it stops them from dreaming as much, and when they quit they'll start getting dreams again...usually really vivid ones. So, I've been doing the same. At first I noticed when I'd stop, I would have more vivid dreams, but less dream flashbacks, so it was sorta a tradeoff. But finally I quit for a long time and haven't smoked since, and both my dreams are really vivid and wild, and also I'm beginning to get the flashbacks more and more as time goes on. A lot of times in the last month I had to pull all-nighters for exams and schoolwork, and when I did this I would get tons of flashback activity.
Also since having all this dream activity over the past few years, I've begun to interpret as much as I can. At first it was really vague and I'd be really exaggerating things to get meaning out of it, but now it's almost obvious, and I can almost instantly see what my dreams are telling me.
The most interesting one was one I had right before I woke up, and it seemed to sorta predict the future. What happened, was I had a dream I was in a library in my old town, running around looking for a book I needed. I couldn't find it and I went up to the front desk with my laptop. Right when I went up to ask where the book was, the librarian looked at my computer and complimented my desktop background. I started to change through them, showing her other backgrounds I had...then I also remember shortly after heading to the bathroom. This was right before I woke up, and when I awoke I hadn't remembered the dream entirely right away. First thing I did was go on my computer and checked the school online library to find a book I needed that day to study for an exam. So I was searching through the online library, and right after I found it, I closed out of the internet and decided randomly I should change my background. Right after I changed it, I remembered the dream I had just had, and how obvious it synced up to what I'd just done. Then I went off to the bathroom to go piss and brush my teeth.
That was one of the few dreams I had that had been almost clearly obvious suggesting my actions in the next day, almost like a deja vu. But other than that, a lot of my dreams are still interpretable to me, just in more broad terms, usually dealing with more long term thoughts and events rather than just instant quick daily routines. But almost everyday throughout the day, based on what I do, I usually recall at least a few dreams from the night before, and a few from years ago. And both are usually interpretable to what I'm going through/doing/thinking.
Anyway, the reason I'm posting in here for sleep paralysis, is cause I literally just awoke from my sleep paralysis experience, and I thought I'd share with you guys.
Last night I got hardly any sleep cause I got home late and I had to go to a doctors appointment early this morning. Once I came home, I decided to take a nap before going back out later. I forget how my dream started, but I remember being in a huge hall that was divided into two rooms. On one side it was just me and another kid who seemed to be my friend, but I never had met him in real life. Me and him were in this huge room with music dancing. I'm pretty sure in the dream I was on the drug ecstasy. I left the room to go to the other side to see what was happening. On the other side there was also a huge party with music and people dancing, only there were tons of people and not just two like in the other room. So I went back to tell my friend we should just join this party. He follows me over, and I point out where we go in, and he suggests we leave and go across the street to a place/club called Pills. He tells me there we could probably get some PK's (around here my friends who do heavy drugs call heroin PK's (Pain Killers))
Of course I've never done heroin and I never plan to, but in the dream I tell him this, and I'm sorta interested though in just trying it once. I start questioning him about it and he says here I'll let you experience it. Next thing I know I'm experiencing EXTREME BLISS. MY whole body is warm and feels amazing. Right when this is happening, I begin to wake up, but stay between dream and awake state. I open my eyes slightly and see that I'm in my room and I begin to notice this is a dream, but I can also sorta stay in the dream experiencing the heroin feeling. My vision is a bit fucked, as I look around the room kinda a bit fractaly and split in layers. I try to move, and I can't really, but also I really don't want to cause I feel fantastic.
Next thing you know, the room seems to be shaking violently, and it feels like my head is like above me in an attic. All I can hear is these DEMON sounds coming from inside my head that are so fucking frightening. It just sounds like crazy fucking demons going crazy in a cage, bouncing around inside my head. The whole room is shaking, and although it's quite frightening I'm actually really happy cause I know this is sleep paralysis, and I remember reading on here about your experiences and wanting to try it. The reason why is cause a lot of people who get OOBE's also get sleep paralysis right before they go into it. So, I was sorta excited to finally be getting this, and I was kinda trying to keep it going to get an oobe. Eventually I wanted it to end cause it was frightening, but the only way was to tell the kid in my dream I wouldn't do heroin, lol. I know it's weird, but as soon as I was like "ALRIGHT ALRIGHT I WON'T DO IT!", just after the sleep paralysis ended and I woke up.
So, yeah that's my story. Sorry for the long read, but maybe it will be interesting to those of you involved in vivid dreams/sleep paralysis. Let me know if any of you have similar experiences, as I'd love to learn more about dreams, and what this means to me. I was talking to a friend of mine and he said it might be some sort of ESP (Extra-sensory Perception) which would be really cool and interesting.
I'll let you guys know if more stuff happens!

Wow dude, that was a long read. But quite an interesting one as well.
I also have a lot of dream flashbacks too! Sometimes even from years before. Same as you, most of those dreams I didn't even wake up to. Isn't the human mind an extraordinary thing? Wow! I love those dream flashbacks. It's like touching the subconsiousness.
I also experience sleep paralise (or ESP). That demonsound in your head sounds familiar too, but the last time I had that was years ago.
I was sooo frightnend when I experienced that. I was like something inevitable. Like taking an extreme long but extremely fast going escalator to hell, and you cannot outrun it.. Makes me wonder what there is out there we can't see..
Maybe what you experienced was an angel-demon fight.. Like feeling completely bliss, but also frightnend after that. Maybe you picked up something like that

.
Anyway. Interesting post Shadow.
You must tell us more about OOBE and stuff!

I've had this a couple of times recently, one time I felt like I should be waking up but couldn't move a muscle in my body. I thought I'd become paralysed completely, but luckily after a couple of minutes I managed to move again! The worst one was when I felt an immense pressure in my head, it felt like my head was deflating to be honest, and it actually sounded like air was escaping and rushing through my ears, along with a variety of frequency sounds. I also felt I massive weight on my head, like something was crushing it. Not nice! It felt like I was awake but knew I was sleeping, hard to explain...I felt like either I was dying or it was going to wake up eventually, finally I became fully conscious and the head pressure thing instantly went away.
