i became paralized a few days ago in a fetal position in the morning and heard an evil voice behind me saying "i can't believe you killed me! i can't believe you killed me!' over and over again. i couldnt scream or move. terrifying experience. lasted for about a minute.
when i was young i used to get stuck when i had my face in my pillow so i felt like i was suffacting
not fun at all

Many years ago I experienced sleep paralysis - the first time it happened I thought that I was dying. I woke up (or so I thought) one morning and could not move... not even a finger or a toe. I could hear the wind outside and I also heard dogs barking in the distance but I could not even lift my eyelids.
After several moments of absolute panic I finally accepted that this was what death was like, and that shortly I would begin to float up and fly away from my bed off to a fantastic new adventure. However, I eventually could move and then everything was OK. I did some reading on the subject and spoke with a doctor, but never had any tests. Apparently when this happened I would actually still be asleep, but just awake enough that I could hear things and be aware (somewhat) of my surroundings.
These episodes would sometime happen several times a week and this went on for a couple of years. I got used to it and eventually it all went away. I was under much stress at that point in my life so I think that may have contributed to the cause.
The most fascinating thing about it was that I was experiencing what everyone's body goes through each night, but we are usually unconscious and not aware of it. It was absolute paralysis accompanied with a really weird electrical feeling throughout my body - as if all of my nerve endings were turned off and the rest of my nervous system was receiving nothing but static or "white noise" without the presence of nerve stimuli.
(This subject also reminded me of the only time in my life that I had a dream come true, literally I had an actual detailed premonition of the future from a dream. But that is a subject for another topic!)

While it can be very scary (so they say, I haven't personally experienced it), there is a possibility of something positive coming from this. I've never experienced sleep paralysis, though one of my friends has recently gone through it alot. He said even now that he know what it is, he still gets a sense of fear and begins to panic each time he has had it.
The positive from all this is if you're at all interested in the subject of astral projection or oobes, sleep paralysis can lead to these very easily. I've always been interested in these subjects and having done alot of reading on it, alot of the authors said that an easy way to experience these things is directly after sleep paralysis kicks in. If you're interested in them, do some more research on techniques to 'get out of your body' and such. It can be a scary thought for some, but if you're interested, you might as well put the SP to use
.
If you just want to get rid of the frightening experience though, nevermind my me and see what your doctor has to say.

i've had these a lot of times in my life. the worst one was when i felt my head go back and like behind me were all these loud weird guttural noises, and as my head went all the way back this demented figure came into view. scary as hell. i figured that if you ever have them, just 'go back to sleep' without moving anything, and you wake up fine.

a terrible night...
I've had sleep paralysis/night terrors about a dozen times, but last night I had one of the worst ever. It was horrifying. Everything was very dark; I was in a dark, ghastly, netherworldish dreamworld. There was this evil old man with a distorted, grotesque face threatening me, very close up and in my face. I could not get away from him. I was overwhelmed with a horrible, all-consuming fear. Suddenly I realized that I was dreaming. I became aware that I was lying in bed. I was fully conscious of both my real body lying in bed, grasping my covers, and simultaneously being within the dreamworld. I knew I had to escape. It was absolutely terrifying. For what seemed like an eternity, I struggled to break free from the dream. I would move my arms in bed and shake my head, trying to awake my mind by using my body to shake myself. It occasionally seemed to be working--I would sense myself being slightly awoken, and I would pull out of the dream ever so slightly and lift my head a few inches from the pillow, hoping to break loose. But time and again, I would feel this horrible, powerful "sucking" back into the dream world, threatening to completely remove me from the real world and trap me back within the dream. I was terrified.
I started noticing that every time I felt that I was getting sucked back into the dream, I would hear a very distinct hum, a rather low vibration at a certain pitch (I think it was probably between 50 and 130 Hz but I can't be certain--I tried to locate the frequency using Audacity, and even now it makes me shudder to listen to it)*. I started fighting the Hum as hard as I could, because the louder the Hum, the further I was sucked into the dream. I would weave in and out, and the vibration would get softer and further away, only to suddenly gain on me, threatening to consume me. I felt like I was fighting a monster.
After what was probably only a couple minutes, but seemed much longer to me, I finally shook myself completely free, jumped out of bed as quickly as I could, and turned on the lights. I was shaken and had a headache. I could barely stand up straight. I waited for a while to try sleeping again, and surprisingly, the rest of the night was uneventful--I don't even really remember dreaming anymore after that.
Of course, all day I've been perfectly fine, but DURING the whole event, it felt like total torture..

I remember my first experience, it was the year 2004...
I remember i couldn't move or speak at all, i could hear water pouring out of my head, and i actually thought i was going to die, and infact, i wanted to die, because i couldn't bare it at all. I'm guessing this is what a stroke feels like? Anyway, i woke up sometime later, and was pretty scared about going back to bed the following night.
I had it again a few years later, though it wasn't as bad as when i first experienced it. I would have this hand trying to tickle me, and i couldn't do anything, so i had to let the hand tickle me, in order to wake up.
As for now, i probably get it once every few months, i can move my hand quite a lot as well, so i only have it for like 20-30 seconds.

Oh my God. I think I had this a few years ago, but I put it down to something completely unrelated.
I remember waking up, but being completely unable to move or talk. A pounding noise started in my head which got louder and louder and LOUDER. I already wanted to wake up properly, as by now I was very much aware of myself and where I was. The pounding noise was then overtaken by a loud roar, which I can only describe as sounding like a monster or demon. Even now, some 8 years later, the memory of that noise was enough to make me start shaking. I started to try and call for help but I couldn't speak. Eventually I was able to whisper help to my (now ex)wife. I whispered louder and louder and then eventually managed to scream for help very loudly. Needless to say we didn't get much more sleep that night!
I'd always just assumed that I fell asleep on my back, my breathing became too shallow and the lack of oxygen caused the pounding in my head. Having just read the stuff above, I'm not so sure now.
Brrrrrr. Horrible stuff

I've heard sleep paralysis is more common when lying on your back. Interestingly enough, I was lying on my back that night, whereas I normally sleep on my side. Maybe avoid lying on back? Then again, maybe it's something you want, since I've also heard that lying on your back is conducive to easier "astral projection", which is supposedly somewhat related to sleep paralysis (see Erin Pavlina)...Mexicola wrote:I'd always just assumed that I fell asleep on my back, my breathing became too shallow and the lack of oxygen caused the pounding in my head. wow this is really weird, i've experienced also that when i fall asleep on my back i always hear a frightening humming sound that becomes louder and louder as i fall deeper into sleep. It's a very strange feeling, as if you're more aware of the fact that you're asleep or something. I never experience that when falling asleep on my side. Falling asleep on my back, i also tend to have the between being asleep and awake hallucinations much more often.
I wonder why these hallucinations always have to be so horrifying? Is there an explanation for that? Mine are always about an evil presence, somewhere in my room. Sometimes this presence approaches me, but other times it doesn't. Either way it's so horrifying. And not because it's planning an attack on me or something, but because the presence is so indefinable and evil in itself.. Why is that?

I'm not sure. Some would say that because when you are going into sleep, the "vibrations" of your "etheric body" become lower, so that you are on the same level as other baser vibrations--whether there are actually evil "spirits" present or not. Sounds about 50% nonsense to me. But whether it's objectively nonsense or not, SUBJECTIVELY these things ring a little bit true, because I have experienced this myself and it is indeed very evil. I think though, that it's a good opportunity to try to "raise" your vibration by thinking outwardly, positively, offensively instead of defensively. Erin Pavlina, as I mentioned before, talks about this, and says it affords a good opportunity to try astral projection, which I have successfully done once.TheSilenceEchoes wrote:wow this is really weird, i've experienced also that when i fall asleep on my back i always hear a frightening humming sound that becomes louder and louder as i fall deeper into sleep. I experienced this a lot when I was a kid. I also had the feeling of an evil presence which felt completely vivid. Come to think of it, it usually happend when lying on my back.
As a kid I had an immensly fear of 'satan'. Maybe I grew this fear because of my christian education, I don't know. But from 4 to 12 I had lot of those experiences with complete paralysis. I did feel an awful evil presence, which sucked me towards him. Due to not beeing able to move, I couldn't do anything. There was always a sort of humming sound, but it more sounded like a double pitched evil gregorian choir.
The last time I had this experience I thought I woke up of a real loud screaming (like a kid). But I couldn't move at all. I heard this screaming for several seconds, and then it was gone, which sort of broke the 'spell' and I was able to move again. It was really terrifying, because I heard this screaming voices a lot in my dreams those days.
Fortuntaly this didn't occur for a long time now. Maybe because I always sleep on my side, and never on my back anymore?
