I found a torrent for a FLAC version which is kicking about.

Its such a beast tune, sounds like theres a subtle choir in the background. It must be the only time i've ever heard a drum loop backwards that sounded awesome.
I was gutted when I found out it was Japan only.

While were on the topic of how they get there sounds, anyone have an idea of how they created the main sound in Under the Coke Sign? I cant even come close to imagine how they got it.

Noise oscillators, resonance, and some bypass filters.

That harp section is truly fantastic--in the previously linked Zabriskie Point vid, the image really accents that perfectly. Definitely one of the most beautiful and ethereal pieces of music they've ever produced (in a catalog of grand lush moments). Weird though, I had always felt like this and Zoetrope were distant cousins (I don't know a lick of music theory, it may be more of a tonal thing).

totally know what you mean man, i think it's because both seem like songs that got stretched out until the carrying sounds separated out into individual granules or pulses

i love both...i remember listening to zoetrope whilst on mushrooms. it spoke to me...and always has since.

This is probably my favourite BoC track. I have always been interested in how they made that main sounds. To me, it sounded like a guitar, but played on the sampler as piano chords (i.e. created a sample patch from a guitar sound much like they have talked about in the past).

Interested in the ebow theory though. I love Stars of the Lid and believe they use a lot of eBow in their ambient drone music (some of which is like BoC ambient stuff). Check out The Tired Sounds Of... Also similar to the William Basinski stuff, which I think there was an earlier post on.

You know, when I first heard the track I wasn't really digging it at all. It just seemed way too barebones and simple for me--like, it was minimal but in a more "empty" sense. And then I finished the track.

I can't BELIEVE how much progression that track makes. It's wonderful. I really need to find a copy of the Japanese version of the album so I can stop listening to it off of Youtube in 64kbps audio quality.

I can't decide which track is more finalising, Farewell Fire or Macquarie, but I know which one I prefer to lead me into Tomorrow's Harvest.

It has regenerative powers, it's a stunner!!!

I believe they might have based this track around playing harmonics on an electric guitar. Try it out next time you play. Crank it up and set up a volume gate on 8ths or something, you'll hear what I mean probably.

Wow, you read my mind! That’s excellent! I love the way the credits are slightly slowed down, it fits the track really well.

I still think there is room for a version that focuses on the wildlife and landscape as well, since it is such a unique location in the world.

I still like Moz's better for how well the dreamy animation goes with the music.

I always envision a bright timelapse effect while listening to Macquarie Ridge. The track really conjures up some intense nostalgic feelings.
