Hey guys, I wanted to start up a thread on non-electronic music. It's obvious everyone here likes BoC and related artists, but I want to see what other stuff you're all into.

I guess I'll start off with Neva Dinova.

Number one for me is Pink Floyd. Also love all sorts like Bob Dylan, The Doors, Velvet Underground, Jefferson Airplance, Talking Heads, Johhny Cash. The list goes on..

That second track is lovely, thanks for sharing. I used to never listen to electronic music, but nowadays it's mostly all I listen to. Still listen to a ton of Pink Floyd though of course and I've been getting really into the talking heads lately. David Byrne is an absolute genius and quite a character!

For me , every style , every genre , have their merits , and even if i dont particularly like a track or a genre , i think i've become pretty good at filtering out all the extraneous bits that dont interest me , to arrive at the bits i can learn from.
No artist is an island , and we all have been influenced by someone else , but I love making kinda hybrid stuff so i'll apply the dynamics of , say , a pink floyd lead guitar solo , to a moog synthlead , and strap on a hiphop beat , with jazz timings and throw in some glitch to sweeten the deal.
I'm just a sponge for every kind of music , and every time i listen , im always learning something , no matter how insignificant.

You can never reach a point as an artist where you can say " i have arrived ! " .
Jimi hendrix had to learn the rules before he could break them , as did RDJ , or squarepusher , or ritchie sambora.
Its not essential , but i think it helps , to be familiar with other styles of music , and bring those tricks into electronica tracks.

I hate that term because with enough effort it can be extrapolated to basically most things whether it's music fashion intellectualism or culture. Fuckit

I don't really like a lot of electronic music to be honest... well no. That's false. I do like a lot of stuff but it's mostly electronic elements. BoC and a lot instrumental hiphop is about as electronic as I get though.

No I completely agree, a friend (at the moment) and I have had conversations about being "hipster" and such, she feels pretty much the way you feel.

It's like, completely lazy, just putting people in a box because they don't like their music.

I don't understand why the term "hipster" is used as an insult. It's like people who call other people a hipster are generally saying "You're stupid and I'm much more genuine than you." That's kind of a contradictory statement, isn't it? Because you're mad at someone for claiming to be "better than" someone else, yet you're doing that exact thing. That's why the term bothers me altogether. I don't have a problem with the culture. People are going to do what they want, so let them. I don't like "hipsters" because being a hipster means that you're changing your outlook on things with a preconceived notion of being "different" than other people. There is nothing wrong with being "different" but there is a huge problem with doing things for the sake of being different.

I hope my little rant makes sense.

I didn't intend to post only live performances, but I guess this is where the true beauty of non-electronic music lies for me.
