I've posted this in another thread, bit thought it justified a new thread to bring it to everyone's attention (mods - feel free to delete if you feel otherwise - don't want to just add to the noise :) )

It looks like one of the 12"s is in Avalanche in Edinburgh:

I can't venture out due to personal stuff at the moment, but here's your heads up. Any of you find it, mine's a Deuchars ;)

They denied having it around when the interest was peaking, didn't they! That was crafty.

If only some of the Scottish BOC fans knew what was hidden away in there despite the store's word, I think it would have been turned up on the first weekend!

So have they sold it to someone now or?

$900+ already with still 6 days left on the auction  .

And probably set to sky rocket now that Pitchfork just published an article on it. Can you get much better advertisement for your ebay item!? Christ.

Not that I blame him for wanted to sell it considering how much it must be worth, but in a way I find it a little disappointing. If I'd got my hands on one of those records, I'd treasure it like nothing else.

I deleted the above quote because I saw someone had mentioned it elsewhere. But yeah, I'm a collector of BoC so I would for sure keep it.

I would rather sell my mattress and my clothes than this almost unique record. Yes, it is a tad disappointing.

do you have one of only six mattresses in the world, for which the ebay auction will be promoted on pitchfork , factmag and countless music blogs?

all im saying is don't judge the guy, you dont know anything about why hes doing it. in his shoes i would probably die inside but given the way my life is right now there is no way i could justify hanging onto something that cash-valuable

(edited for typo)

Yeah fair play to him, he is obviously in need of cash for more important things and is sat on a goldmine. But money comes and goes. It is what it is. An almost one of a kind Boards of Canada vinyl promo for their first album in 8 years though? That shit is just too awesome to sell. I felt pretty ecstatic when I got a 1/500 kaleidoscope and a 1/500 aquarius single. So I would probably melt with happiness if I had a 1/6 vinyl record. Don't think I could sell it.

If avanlache records do indeed plan to sell this record to one lucky person, how much will they sell it for? I mean now we all know what it's worth right? Will they just sell it for 20 quid or something?

I wouldn't have kept it. They're my favorite ever, but I'm not a collector, I only have records to listen to music in the best quality format, and it's not like it has much replay value. I'd take a pic of myself holding it, treasure the memory of finding it and then would have given it to my ex gf/good friend, who actually does collect records and is the biggest boc fan I know. Or I would have sold/traded it to someone who it would have been special to. The memory woulda been cool enough.

He might still have it. I think I'll phone and check and beg him to put it aside for me if it is for sale ;P take me an hour to get there ;/

That's funny. I had a good rummage through Avalanche on monday, couldn't find it, asked if they had it and got a no. There are a lot of records in there though and it would take a while to find it!

I just went in and spoke to the guy at lunch - he said they got it yesterday and sold it yesterday. Apparently people have been coming in, asking for it, thinking he was lying when he said no and continuing to try and find it in the vinyl section. He also seemed pretty pissed off to be getting another Boards of Canada question!

Edit: Although I'm personally surprised Warp didn't provide a copy to Underground Solution - they seemed like the more likely place to have it.
