Boards of Canada Tutorials!

Post by Mason Bane »

Two Boards of Canada tutorials. One showing how to replicate the Grudig tape effect and one showing how to make an instrument on the Poly 61.

That poly 61 synth sounds really really nice. Shame hardware synths are so expensive these days... Guess us laptop bedroom musicians are stuck with midi synths, hah.

You can get great hardware synths cheaply.

Of course but if you really want a hardware synth then anyone can save up a few hundred quid. Stop smoking weed for a bit and you'd easy do it. *generalisation*

I can't stand Softsynth interfacing and turning a knob with a mouse gets on my tits so even a cheap digital hardware synth like a Blofeld is 100times more rewarding than any soft synth even with the bugs.

Relatively is the word here yes.

The Roland juno 6/60/106 are still okish priced compared to manny others. Ebay is a pretty good indicator of the current market price.

But I would go for a brand new Korg ms20mini or Arturia Minibrute if I were to buy a synth today. Then you don't need to worry about breakdowns, and 30 years of dust.

I'd quite like to get my hands on a MiniBrute. Not ridiculously expensive either.

Also, perfecting the bass sound for ROYGBIV does not a BoC clone make.

A) I don't think BoC use that bass sound for any other track.
B) He far from perfects it.

Very true and I imagine they use the same synth for many bass sounds. Sh101 I am assuming.
I get 99% there with SH09.
