What was your opinion of BoC when you first listened to them

When you first listened to one of BoC's songs, did you like them, or did it take time to get used to them?

When I first started listening to BoC back in 2005, I immediately fell in love with TCH, but it took some time for me to fall in love with MhtRtC and Geogaddi.

I started with 'Zoetrope' and 'From one source all things depend'. I found them interesting and somewhat magical, but I wasn't hooked quite yet. I knew they were special and I needed to give them proper attention. I returned a few months later and listened to Geodaddi from beginning to end after smoking some fine herb. It was an incredible experience. I tried sober listening the next day, somewhat skeptical, but to my surprise it was even better-- I was properly hooked from then on.

I got both geogaddi and mhtrtc from my big sisters ex. I was intrigued though I didn't "get" it for quite some time. I definitely preferred geogaddi over mhtrtc. I found it interesting but not beautiful by any means. It was borderline ugly if I remember correctly. That is, until I was drawing and Olson came on. That was like the missing puzzle piece and an explosion in both mind and body was triggered.

When I first heart Aquarius I was like "oh hey this is pretty cool", then when I heard all of MHTRTC I was like "holy shit, where have these guys been all my life?!". It was just like, right on my wavelength. I could see what they were going for with the nostalgia and wobbly weirdness and I found it really exciting.

I love those magical moments when you find music or art or writing etc that really stir something in your subconscious.

Maybe five or six years ago I was just getting into "indie" music (as I referred to anything that wasn't on the radio back then) and found myself drawn to post rock and ambient music in particular. A friend of mine knew a lot of music of the sort and gave me a list which included Boards. I heard Dayvan Cowboy, thought "cool," and promptly forgot about it.

A couple months later I had settled into a few bands that I really dug and had stopped the overwhelming search for new music. Then I remembered "that one cool song with the skydiving video" and fell in love. Promptly got Headphase and Geogaddi and dug them immediately, and they've remained my two favorite albums ever since.

the first song I heard was sixtyniner
I on the spot went like "DAMN THIS IS AWESOME!" and then the first full length I bought of them was Geogaddi and the rest is history

The first song I have heard by them was Roygbiv and I have been fascinated by old nostalgic sounds of synthesizers ever since I was a wee little person.

As soon as the song started, I needed to hear more by them. So I decided to listen to An Eagle In Your Mind and the beat at 4:15 is what hooked me.

^quite opposite to this guy, I heard boc in a minecraft video and I was like :O WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE!?!? And so I YouTubed them and fell in love. also a random funny derp I had, when I first downloaded some songs onto my computer I thought it was broads of canada not boards Hahahahaha silly me

hate to admit it, but when I first heard BoC, I had IABPOITC, and I thought it was a bit slow and uninteresting. Then one faithful day their music just clicked (funny how that happens) and now i'm a full blown addict. Love absolutely everything they've done, but unfortunately TH didn't quite live up to my expectations, but maybe it's a grower. That's not to say it doesn't have some proper banging tracks.

Also, I absolutely love IABPOITC now, Kid for Today may be my favourite BoC tune. I guess my brain wasn't ready first time round!

I first heard BoC in about 2001 when I accidentally downloaded their albums on Soulseek. I looked them up and was intrigued because I was also musical at an early age and have recorded stuff with my brother my whole life starting with reel-reel tapes, 8-tracks, etc.

I generally like to absorb albums one at a time and start at the beginning, so I began listening to Boc Maxima. I remember how "empty" it sounded while still having plenty of detail. I felt it was quite different to anything else in my collection. I loved the "b-grade" quality of it. My wife at the time thought it was pretty boring but I was hooked, I felt like I could identify a lot with BoC and their music.

I managed to get each album at higher quality, revealing a lot more detail. I couldn't stand it any longer and bought all their CDs in one hit. After that, BoC pretty much became my favourite artist. I'm very impressed with their attention to detail; they truly are masters of sound.

When Geogaddi came out, I liked it instantly and couldn't stop listening to it. "Alpha and Omega" is one of my favourite tracks of all time by any artist (the way the flutey/bongo dabbling at the start rips into that synth melody is incredible!)

I've never had any problems "conditioning" myself into liking BoC's music. I found Autechre and some Aphex Twin stuff a bit hard to get into but never BoC.

When I first heard BOC I was interested, the second time a few years later I got goosebumps, and wondered what was that song, and had to have it

That was CH, so yeah haven't been listening all that long

only 7-8 or so years..

I should mention, a friend of mine who has a very particular, unique and cool taste in music, recommended it for me, said it wasn't his stuff, but he thought it would be up my alley.. We also saw Richard Devine together at the mercat in Melbs around that time. Cool stuff.

In relation to this, I just noticed I have 6666 plays of BOC scrobbled to Last.fm and they're #1 in my all-time charts. Funny how things change.

BoC was the first time in my life I had consciously listened to electronic music.
My best friend, who was constantly sending me music, sent me YouTube links for Everything You Do is A Balloon, Music is Math, and In A Beautiful Place Out In the Country. They're the versions that have the impressive user-made videos.

Not even retrospectively wanking off here, I was blown away first listen. There's that quote somewhere from BoC saying they made the music they wanted to hear that no one else was making ... or something like that. One of my first thoughts, upon finishing Everything you Do for the first time was "Fuck, this is the music I've always wanted to hear and haven't heard anyone else making until right now."
I still feel that way most of the time

the very first thing come up in my mind when i heard Music is Math. Also i was thinking they are overrated and too simple comparing to aphex twin for example, and i think this my opinion was for a while

Music Has the Right to Children initially struck me as interesting and different, but not particularly gripping. Then I listened to Geogaddi and went ballistic.

I first heard "Beware The Friendly Stranger" on Salad Fingers, and also heard some BoC in Weebl and Bob but didn't know who it was by at that time and didn't think much of it, except that it was an appropriately creepy background for Salad Fingers.

Later on, I found myself starting to get into electronic music, mostly brought on by Adult Swim bumps, and my friend linked me to a nice electronic music shoutcast (underground headphone sex), and I got a stream ripper and let it run overnight and got a whole bunch of tracks. Among these a few surfaced to the top among my favorites, including Dawn Chorus, You Could Feel The Sky, Julie And Candy, Aquarius, Sherbet Head, and Happy Cycling. Keep in mind, the stream ripper doesn't record who the artist is, only the track name, so I had no idea all these tracks happened to be by the same artist.

Back to Weebl and Bob, I remember one day being bored and liked the track that was in that video (don't remember which track it was, I just remember BoC was credited at the end) and I randomly looked up BoC and discovered they had made all these tracks that I loved. I immediately grabbed their discography and really loved most of it, and came to love the rest in time.
