70s string sound, compilation of short examples in one track

That's a collection of examples of what I see to be a distinct 70's melancholy string/horns sound, with a rock beat. I really like it.

In order

Stereolab, Miss Modular (only one not actually from the 70's)
Chick Corea Return to Forever, '77
Soundtrack to Phantom Tollbooth movie, '70
"The Riveriera Affair" by Neil Richardson, originally in the 70's, re-used in one of the Ocean's 13

Anyway, I wish I could find more of this sound. Any recommendations?

I'm no expert, but those sound very 70's easy listening/US TV show theme to me. I don't have any specific recommendations, I'm afraid.

From your 'melancholy' description, I was thinking more this -

as sampled by Tricky and Portishead.

You gotta delve into Curtis Mayfield, especially the Superfly soundtrack.

Also - see the Dirty Harry soundtrack.

And, a group called The Sylvers (their first two albums, which I think are out of print).

Also - check out the strings in this Roberta Flack track (and the amazing singing, imo)
