you've probably had a couple threads on this but it interests me.
BoC have said in multiple interviews that they use "secret weapons" to create that sound that is too fucking hard to replicate.
What kind of special equipment do you use? I understand some of your machines are quite big. And you have something what you call “the Secret Weapon”.
If I told you what the secret weapon is, it wouldn't be a secret anymore. We have more than one really. We use a mixture of old and new equipment. We don't have lots of synths, we use hi-fi gear and other tricks to achieve our sound.
anyone have an idea on what it might be? i remember reading somewhere a while ago that it's a crumar, but a BOC sticker is covering the name of the synth.

I heard they also like to record leaky boilers, pump the sound out into an underground cathedral I think they said atlantis in an interview but the recording gear surely wouldnt work there ... anyway that makes their sound massive and then they run the run the resulting recording through a VHS machine made out of old clogs for that oaky timbre!
