Tips for audio remastering?

I've heard the work people have done for the Old Tunes tapes and am wondering if anyone can share how it's done? I've got several tracks I want to upload to Youtube since no one's ever made a compilation, and it's some pretty neat 80s music that seems it could otherwise be forgotten. Problem is a lot of it is sourced from VHS tapes. Since the Old Tunes were cassette and yet were possible to bring new life too, I'd like to think the same would be possible for VHS-sourced audio.

I know the main thing I keep seeing mentioned for those remasters was restoring the high frequencies. Not sure that that means...but it sounds good!

Anyone got some guidance?

I love the sound of VHS, are you sure it's not good the way it is? I get the feeling all it needs is some EQ'ing. I'm sure you can find some tutorial on it. "restoring the highs" means lowering the lows and mids.

I agree with cupz, eq-ing can be nice if you're just trying to make it more listenable. Just don't get caught up trying to make it perfect. Half of the magic of those old recordings is going to be the degradation
