Anyone know what on Earth this is?!?

Post by Mexicola »

OK, so I’ve been scratching my head about this one for a few days now but I’m drawing a blank. Hopefully one of you can shed some light...

A few days ago now I popped in to see the guys at my local independent record store, as I often do when I’m looking to haemorrhage a few beer tokens in exchange for some records that nobody else likes. The usual questions and answers were exchanged. Did they have anything new from Kranky, Miasmah or Erased Tapes..... No, No, and No but there’s a new Ed Sheeran on the way soon. Sarcastic fuckers.

I was about to ogle the rare David Bowie single kept behind the counter again (this store recently relocated from it’s locale underneath a bedsit allegedly once owned by Robert Fripp) when the manager Rob said ‘Here, you like all that drone shite don’t you? We found this.....thing..... out the back a while back. No idea who it is or where it came from, but it turned up sometime after the move. It’s completely fubarred so we can’t sell it. You’re daft enough though. Stick a few quid in the charity box and it’s yours.’ And with that he literally chucks this 12” across the counter like it’s offended him. Feeling frivolous, I took it home and played it.

I also have ‘no idea who it is’ and he wasn’t kidding, it’s entirely fucked and made from vinyl which I can only liken to the cheap plastic tray you find underneath a frozen pizza. But..... it’s also rather glorious.

Take a listen!!!

Anyone place it?

Maybe Jandek made a ambient/drone album?

(Seriously, no idea, but it's interesting.)

OK! I love these things :-D

So the string of digits on the center label is hex for "fff.303156.xap"

That is rot-17 code for "www.303156.org" which takes you to a website with some video of skies and a sweet soundtrack.

303156.org had a bandcamp embed earlier this week which is gone now. The artist in the embed was eloutril. The artwork on the bandamp page was the same as that record. The bandcamp page seems to have been taken down now too.

A couple of artist links from the credits of the now missing eloutril pre-order page salvaged from my browser history:
https://mobdividual.bandcamp.com/music
https://pwhitehill.bandcamp.com/music

But why would you believe me? This makes me feel crazy.

The html of 303156.org currently has this string commented at the end:

RzRaVElNQlRHTVpUQU1aVEdNWVRHTkpUR1laRUtOWllHWVlUT01BPQ

No idea what that means. Someone smarter than me could probably could figure it out.

I sent an email to j@303156.org and received a link in a reply:

https://www.303156.org/111119.html

There's an image and a string of hexadecimal on that page:

I did get it to work. Sounds awesome.

Hey Mex, how did you know to call it 303156 before that information popped up in this thread? I have a feeling you know more than you are letting on

Also, if you inspect that number matrix image found on https://www.303156.org/111119.html there is a link to a youtube video... this video...

Looks like something is happening on November 12th 2019. Word.
Whatever this really is, the track in this video is fucking phenomenal!
