Video Circuit Bending For Live Performances

This seems like a decent place to post this. I've just recently found out about the video glitch effects/circuit bending scene, but I need a little bit of guidance on where to go with it, if anyone here happens to know anything about this. Basically, I want to run some kind of visual backdrop for my band's live performances, but I'm having trouble thinking of creative ways to get an audio signal into a circuit in order to affect the visuals. I've heard that BoC did something like that at some of the early live shows, so I figured maybe someone here would have some insight. I've only just started making some very crude analog video mixers, some internal feedback loops, etc. I don't really know how to go about incorporating much else, such as adding my own oscillators, changing aspects such as saturation, things like that. This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but if anyone has some guidance, I am all ears. I've been trying to put together a visual experience for our live show for a couple years now, and I have something decent, but I'd like it to be a bit more affected and a bit less "they're playing VHS tapes with the music." AFAIK get an arduino and just find a script that will output voltage on one Pin dependent on audio volume average. you should then easily be able to try shorting a bunch of stuff inside your tv or whatever video mixer you're using. (be careful not to shock yourself off course, proper care needed when circuit bending) easy to experiment with and cheap.

As someone who isn't necessarily financially comfortable but who is willing to spend an uncomfortable amount of money on gear...this terrifies me.

In all seriousness, I'm interested more in something like a rig comprised of little individual "glitch boxes", switches, and a video mixer or two, so something like tachyons+ seems like a good option. I wish I knew enough about circuits to make something like those units, because, without discrediting the work of any of these brands, they don't seem that complicated to make, even if mine might not be as pretty. But the prices for those boxes aren't bad. Thanks for the suggestions!
