The New Wave (~'70s - '80s)

Post by rodox_head »

This is a thread dedicated to my favorite era of Rock and Alternative Music; the Post-Punk and New Wave era from the late '70s through the mid '80s.

Post-Punk, New Wave, Punk Rock, Alternative Rock, and Darkwave are all welcome, but no Synthpop please.

Longarm - Wall of Voodoo

Gathering Dust - Modern English

Regatta De Blanc - The Police

Live At The Marquee - The Vapors

Revelation - Josef K

Icing Sugar - The Cure

Закрой за мной дверь, я ухожу - Кино

Read About It - Midnight Oil

Gut Feeling/Slap Your Mammy - DEVO

Like a Vise - My Dad is Dead

Shot By Both Sides - Magazine

Good For Your Soul - Oingo Boingo

Winning - The Sound

You get the picture.

A good few.

Peter Gabriel - Exposure

That Tony Levin baseline needs a shower, cos it's so dirty. :)

Echo and the Bunnymen - Turquoise Days

New Order - Age of Consent

Gary Numan - Music For Chameleons

Exposure's long lost more "bouncy" cousin.

Lonelady - (I Can See) Landscapes

In technical terms not the 70s or 80s, but the spirit of post-punk is there.

Art of Noise - Paranoimia

"Heaven Up Here" was one of my first Post Punk albums I listened to when I actually knew of the term; still a personal favorite of theirs. I find it funny that, at least in America, Numan is considered just another '80s one-hit-wonder and pops up on '80s compilations when I think his best work is mostly outside the '80s  ; Love his work.

I like to call the resurgence in the 2000s "The Nu Wave"

Be Stiff - DEVO

In Shreds - The Chameleons

Don't Box Me In - Stewart Copeland & Stan Ridgeway

Loveless Love - The Feelies

It Aint None Of Your Business - Missing Persons

Nightmares - A Flock of Seagulls

Lust To Love - The Go-Go's

Visions of China - Japan (Karn is fantastic on bass as usual, but Jansen is underrated on drums)

Johnny on the Monorail - The Buggles

It's Easier Than You Think - My Dad Is Dead

Mystery Achievement - The Pretenders (that bassline :) )

Good Die Young - Divinyls

My record version has seen better days, the sleeve is all torn but it sometimes that adds to the album, blowing the dust off it later to give it a spin. :D

He released one last year named "Intruder", the NIN influence runs deep through it. I'd give it a listen but it all sounds extremely similar. As usual, lot's of biblical lyrics but not much experimentation.

4 more tracks. 8)

Ultravox - Someone Else's Clothes

Altered Images - I Could Be Happy

Grace Jones - Slave to the Rhythm

Idles - Model Village

Best hardcore punk band of the last few years. If you haven't heard anything by Idles yet, get 'em heard!

Flowered Up - Doris... is a Little Bit Partial (1991)

This album is my favourite of the jangly, indie madchester era. :)

This was so good -- any other comps like this out there with obscure tracks -- international etc, I can't find jack shit using search engines these days. I know they are out there I have seen them in the stores. Or any other youtube comps similar to above thanks for posting I am recording this for driving around.

Not from the 70s or 80s but Omni is quite a great New Wave / Post Punk group.
