Inferno ≠ Geogaddi 2

This is something that was planted in the back of my brain upon my first listen, but now I think it makes more sense after repeated listens. Inferno isn't the sequel to Geogaddi, but the flip-side to The Campfire Headphase.

As I've seen it, Geogaddi represents the duality of the darker parts of the human mind; the 1st half being the curious nature that leads us further into destruction, and the 2nd half being the "be not afraid" part that asks us to confront those darker sides to better humanity. The 1st half is what leads us to Tomorrow's Harvest where we are left a barren landscape of an Earth we once knew, whilst successfully confronting the demons of the 2nd half would lead us to the more serene Campfire Headphase where we accept the sands of time in peace and contemplation. However, if we fail, and instead choose to fall further down the rabbit hole of despair, conspiracy, and isolation, we end up in an inferno of our own making.

If Tomorrow's Harvest is the Yin to Geogaddi's Yang, then Inferno is the Yin to Campfire's Yang. I can't help but see Into the Rainbow Vein/Chromakey Dreamcoat/Satellite Anthem Icarus and Introit/Prophecy.../Hydrogen, Helium... as sort of "evil twin" versions of each other. Even the album titles feel referential of each other. Geo and Harvest reference the Earth, whilst Campfire and Inferno both reference fire. A campfire is controlled and isolated, which references the peace of mind and clarity that comes from properly confronting your demons, but an Inferno is out of control and spread out, which can only come from a place of psychological despair.

I admit, this is more of a jumping off point that I'm curious if anyone else has suspected, so I'm curious as to what you guys think of this hypothesis.

I disagree on the interpretations of the pre inferno albums but I agree with the main point.

Both in terms of sound but also theme.

IMO each album is an individual entity which exists on its own terms. There are overlaps in themes and sounds but I don't think of any album as a sequel to another one

We're returning to the fresh, open spaces of Music Has the Right to Children but something has changed, and perhaps there's even more hope infused in it. Maybe we had to release this to clear the path for something completely different."
