The Great Outdoors!

Most of us, beings fans of BOC, probably have at least some interest in the outdoors and nature. I'm one of those people. However, I don't have much experience in anything beyond the occasional trip to the beach or lake, and sitting in a field staring off into space. As time marches on, I grow more and more wary of life indoors and am itching to try new things.

My question to you folks is, what are some of your favorite outdoor activities? Does anyone here partake in anything like hiking, camping, rock climbing, bungee jumping, skydiving? What information/ tips can some of you enthusiasts give to someone with a growing desire to try things like this?

I usually take a looooong walk. Or ride my bike to my nephew...which is a looooong looong way.
Nothing to serious...planning on going on a bike trip with my nephew. Just go anywhere, with a tent and everything..do whatever we want. :wink:

That sounds like fun, man. I honestly haven't rode a bike in years. I was just thinking of when I was a kid blazing down a hill with the wind blowing in my face on a nice summer day. God, I haven't thought of that in years...

Do you live out in the country or in the middle of the city? I would love to go for a long walk in the country, but I live smack dab in the middle of a city. The worst part is it's one of those cities that can't decide whether to be a town or a bustling metropolis. It's stuck in some horrible limbo that lacks any of the culture of a real thriving city... if that makes any sense...

I live in the middle of nowhere. The surroundings are beautifull, and I can't hear cars when I'm walking around,big deal! You should ride a bike again. Its awesome.

I drove through enourmous grass-lands once, and all I heard where crickets. I stopped and listened...for half an hour maybe. After I rode back to my house, everything sounded clearer...amazing experience...

I have been camping in a pop-up camper across America for the last 2 weeks, starting from Potsdam, New York and ending today in Fairbanks, Alaska, my new home.

It was truly amazing.

Althought I don't think thats the easiest thing to do, camping is really fun if you're prepared.

I do anything outside when the opportunity arises.

Mostly I bike a lot. I bike a LOT. Mostly along the river trail, along the shore of the Minnesota river.

Also there is some longboarding and walking around.

I love exploring the woods and, though I've never gone camping, am looking for places to camp nearby so I can do that with some friends soon.

I forgot to also mention: snowboarding! I go up north to the shore of lake superior and snowboard on the lil mountains we have in MN.

I love the outdoors..at least in these beautiful summer months. I live IABPOITC :lol:

..so theres a whole forest behind my house to wander through, plus a cabin my dad built years ago. I walk back there now and then..but the main thing I do is have campfires. Bring out an amp and speakers and rock some boc and such, invite people over and chill. It's really fun..but sad, because after this month most of my friends will be heading back to school and stuff...

I've been sailing since I was a wee 6 years old. One of the more recent memorable trips on the local lake was listening to TCH on a glassy day... it's truly been too long since I've gotten out tho.

Love ice skating too. There's a big lake in Evergreen Colorado I try to get to once a year and skate. Nothing quite like skating the big outdoors!

boc i think have influenced me in the way i think of the outdoors and nature then anything else...

umm i go biking a lot...swimming in little nooks and crannys all over Maine

umm go the beach...have beach bonfires

there's this old rock quarry near my house, st. peters village, my friends and i go rock-hopping, swimming, adventuring there. it's a great place.

I love nature. Unfortunately where I live everything is so processed by idiots who want to sculpt natures chaos (which is its beauty). I live on a golf course with patches of forest so I go explore those often, go to ponds, etc. I really love fields though, just the open horizon,...I always feel a little more clarity when im in a field.

Cycling is just the best way to get out in the open air. Myself and my partner Eleanor did a 25 mile ride last Sunday and this weekend we'll be heading to nearby Brownsea Island to go and explore. Couple of weekends ago we went to Old Harry Rocks (see below) and just sat for hours watching the seagulls and feeling the sun on our faces, looking up at clouds. You can keep all the chemicals in the World, nothing feels as good as that. Simple things are always the most wonderful.

Bike, camera, fresh air and a picnic (optional) = one happy me

my treebors and I disagree that nature is chaos

they enlightened me about that a year ago.

nature is the resistance to chaos! ask your local treeborhood for details (mushrooms recommended).
