innovative hiphop producers

Post by Infinite E »

I'm not even sure what to call this stuff... which is probably a good thing  but it seems to me theres a some common characteristics (as well as plenty of diversity) between a lot of newish producers like flying lotus, hudson mohawke, harmonic 313, rustie, samiyam etc. And I love it.

So here is a thread within which they shall be discussed.

EDIT 2: I changed the title again coz both the previous two were really uninformative. sorry dudes

With Lotus, at least, it's hip-hop, no doubt about it.

yeah i'm not saying it isn't hiphop, maybe my thread title was a bit misleading. what i meant is there's a really innovative approach in the air at the minute... a lot of producers are trying new styles, taking different influences and generally doing interesting stuff

Anyway, here's a great breezeblock set from harmonic 313. I can't really be bothered writing much more atm, not feeling very long-winded for once.

EDIT:

Rustie - ‘Zig Zag’ (Wireblock)
Drexciya 4 - ‘Take your mind’ (Submerge)
Flying Lotus – ‘$tunts’ (Warp)
Black Milk feat. Phat Kat and Elzhi - ‘Goatit’ (Music House)
Samiyam - ‘Fireball’ (White Label)
Magic Mojig - ‘The Claw’ (White Label)
Harmonic 313 - ‘The Dawn’ (Warp)
Harmonic 313 - ‘Neon’ (Warp)
Heralds of Change - ‘Spotted’ (All City)
Harmonic 313 - ‘Cyclotron’ (Warp)

Taken from just a moment blog, didn't want to link for obvious reasons

It's a more soulful or human variation of what Prefuse 73 did and along the same lines as some of the "glitch hop" stuff. It's great. It's all hip hop 8)

the best group in this abstract danceable groovy hiphop eectronica experimantalish genre is still missing: Abstrackt Keal Agram

Get all their cd's! You'll LOVE it!

Definitely check the following tracks first: del, pièce, audio crash, rivière, et la nuit s'eternise, octagone vierge, pas d'accoutumance...

EPIC!

Hermitude, I guess.
They're a group out of Australia.
Not really that innovative, they sound like Blockhead half the time,
but they still make good instrumental hip hop.

While they represent a totally different sound to what i was originally commenting on, Edan and Madlib are both amazing producers. Especially madlib.
