My View on the Lack of a New Release

Is it just me or has there been too much in the way of BOC imitation since they became more readily known.

No offense to anyone here, but do you think their lack of output is down to the fact they can't be bothered any more, or because there seems to be a myriad of imitators and they don't want to look even remotely like they're re-emphasizing who the true innovators are.

They must appreciate their fan base, because they come across as being honest and truthful people, but they have never saw the need to acknowledge their effect on the whole scene. It seems as if they have nothing to prove in the most innocent sense of the term.

Hasn't one of them become a father quite recently? I know from experience that this changes your whole world view, so perhaps this rationalization on one half of the duo has had an unbalancing effect on the partnership?

For what it's worth, l adore both OOT albums and consider them more than worthy substitutes for BOC's lack of output. I am not putting the imitators down, but do you think there's anything else to say by the pair of them, now that we are so capable of matching their vibe?

People imitate, nothing wrong with that, but most of its shallow and kind of dishonest sounding. I don't know if it turns them off to write music, I'm not sure if they keep track of the myspace scene too much. Just let me be front and say that I think the Oot series is kind of contrived. Its nice that there is a community spirit but I don't think the talent on these releases has got to have a BoC connotation. What gives boc its energy and inspiration is its individualism, its just hard for us as people to morph what we are inspired by into something new, Ive learned this first hand with my music.

With the technology now-a-day´s every loser with a computer can make a track with warbly synths.
I´m not saying none of them have talent, I´m just saying they don´t really WANT to create their own sound.

Not really. I don't think that sentiment applies to everyone.

I just hope that when people hear my music they don't think "This guy is really good at imitating BoC" because I'm not trying to imitate them and in my opinion my music couldn't pass for BoC and shouldn't. But I'm sure people somewhere will think of Boreal Network as a bedroom DJ Boards of Canada ripoff anyway.

I don't. Boreal Network certainly is it's own sound in my mind.

BoC's nostalgia shows different than yours does. I can't explain the difference, but it's there.

It's funny how people come up with all kind of theories why they haven't realeased another album yet. What about quality over quantity? Do we really want an album every 2 years? Well, I don't mind a timespan of 4 or 5 years in between the albums.

I totally agree. BoC don't seem to concede to any kind of commercial pressure to pump out albums every couple of years and they're all the better for it. Their perfectionist tendencies are what makes their records so deep, intricate and unique. Definitely worth the wait.

I think there image as sound innovators is overrated, most of the elements of their music are existing for a long time. For example the psychedelic rocksounds of the late 60s/early 70s. But they are brilliant collectors and from all these ingredients they cook a very very tasty meal that keeps us all addicted. Next album will be spectacular and worth the wait...

Long ago I came around to the conclusion that record companies are their own worst enemies when placing pressure on their star acts to get releasing every couple of years. Nothing like a deadline to dilute creativity. I'm happy to wait until the finished goods are ready for prime time. There's plenty to keep me aurally occupied until something new arrives.

I don't want an album released when it's not up to the brothers perfectionist standards. That's why their other releases are so awesome. They took the time needed to get it done. I'll wait gladly if it means better sound.

I think boc will release it only if they are prepared to, the life is even more than hopeless banal acts (...) so let wait to their own cryptic schedule, I guess there is an album coming soon...

I really believe a new release is just around the corner...

They've said in interviews that they will continue making music the rest of their lives. I don't see why they wouldn't have another release. They also said in another interview after The Campfire Headphase that they had already begun working on the next album. Something tells me they weren't talking about Trans Canada Highway. And it's only been three years since TCH, a lot of the music I listen to gets a release maybe once every five years at best. And those are from my favorite artists!

how do any of us know if they haven't already released something under a different label and under a different moniker? they have already stated that BoC was just a project for them.

anyways, there is something coming and i am way beyond caring when its coming anymore. i really just dont think about it.

Well,...

I for one am happy to walk to work in the morning listening to "Everything You Do is a Balloon" on my mp3 player. Walking through a crowded train station, it's like the video they never made is playing before my eyes.

Other than that, i'm still listening to the Campfire Headphase, MHTRTC and Geogaddi as well as the many ep's and extra tracks like Maquarie Ridge and i'm never tired of hearing them.

When they release the new lp it won't matter if it's old material or a brand new lp, either way, more music is out there for us to enjoy.
